Posts: 1790 (08/25/09 11:07) Crimson Elite Paragon of Evil Custom Titles More My Recent Posts	Well then, if the neutral factions just aren't attractive to people, for want of needing to be more exciting, less boring, etc, etc, than as someone who's involved with the Empire fairly closely, what can we do as a faction to change these opinions, just PM me or other TGE staff because I'm interested in what the community thinks. In any case, I don't know if another neutral faction would work, but I'm willing to see what happens in that regard. Personally, if there's enough 'silent' neutral activity to support this faction, I imagine there would be more overall 'inactive' neutral posting; from my experience they only come out of the cracks when something specific pops up pertaining to them, but don't stick around for being actually 'active'.

There are people who feel so unwelcome in said factions that it seems even hostile to them. Why does the new member base have to come from the old when the old are so entrenched in their faction that jumping would not be an option for them. Sacrifices are going to have to be made and if you wish to see an increase molds are going to have to be broken and new more friendlier options are going to have to be allowed to draw in that stray interest that neither current neutral, lightside or darkside can draw it. You say they have to conform to the establishment but that only defeats the freedom preached by TGC and doesn't separate us from the other stricter RPG communities out there.

Hence, why it's spread thin. People have left the Neutral boards because of this causing it to thin dramatically; it's what happened to TGU when the ambiance went south.

The masses are not always right but there are a lot of opinions on reasons why that would work, and they come from a lot of members who I respect. Marcus had a good point about not allowing transfers would help make certain that the Sith didn't lose members... but that does take away freedom that TGC is all about. I'm a little worried about that but it could be necessary. I still like the idea of something new but because I'm not really able to produce exactly what that is a new dark faction could be attempted. I have my doubts but I'll give it a chance.

I dont think a new Sith faction will downright split TSC down the middle. Many of us will stick with it. So I think the danger of having a diluted Sith opposition can be overcome. We have a lot of Masters right now. And I think having a few as opposition will be a good thing. I cant see how any other faction can be introduced though.

And they also work all day and don't want to come home and work all night in the CSA. Lol j/k But on a more serious note, I don't see how splitting the Sith Faction into two official factions is going to matter much. As I mentioned before, the Sith already have several unofficial factions within it's ranks. Malice has his clan. Adriana has always been a wild-card/loner ever since I created her. Talon has his followers. And there are several smaller groups of players that stick together and do there own thing as well. Personally, I think that's what the Chaos of being a Sith is all about. Being loyal only to yourself. Think of it this way... If the Corporate Sector was the Sith currently, and was comprised of about 5 actual played businesses... Let's say Seinar Fleet Systems and Kuat Drive yards, etc. Just as an example. Would we break up the CSA into two separate factions just because there are two different sets of ideals? Opposing factions can still operate under the same banner. Kind of like Conservatives and Liberals make up The United States. Different people will always have different ideals. However, creating a new and unique faction would draw new attention to the board, create a lasting role playing experience, and provide a bank slate for people to work with. In communities this old, a blank slate is sometimes more attractive than anything because of the communities long and well-established history. There are limitless possibilities for a faction. Hapes was just a suggestion because I used to run a Hapan faction and it had an enormously popular response. In fact, the idea was so popular that the faction itself still exists as it's own independent board (mainly because the community we played on didn't want two Hapan factions). Perhaps survivors or scouts for a new wave) Federation of Free Alliances Grissmath Dynasty Corporate Sector Authority Norat Sovereignty Virgillian Free Alignment Tion Hegemony The list could go on forever. The way I see it is that the Jedi should be united - I can't think of many times (if any) in Star Wars when the Jedi weren't operating as one, even if it was slightly fractured. The Sith, on the other hand, can cope with having twenty different groups, all trying to use one another for their own gains and either operating under the Rule of Two or as a group of non-Force Users run by Sith or as a group of Krath or other such sect. The Rebellion are struggling, the Empire are struggling, the Criminals are struggling, different sections are different times. I would suggest that another neutral faction would also struggle by default - or should replace the criminals. In reality, TGU is a collection of rogues. There isn't a need for it to run itself as a faction but since it's the most active neutral faction there's no reason to do that. There doesn't seem to be any way of adding a neutral faction. A light-side faction wouldn't make sense and the dark-side faction seems like a good choice. My recommendation would be to create a new and different Sith faction. Maybe a Krath faction, maybe Disciples of Ragnos, Jensaarai or one of the other sects (though only Krath is coherent enough to operate as a faction out of those) Alternatively, for neutral factions, I think that you could make a Chiss faction work, a Yuuzhan Vong faction work, probably not any of the others from the above... but maybe a Killik faction, Mandalorian faction, Noghri faction (and I'm not just saying that), Twi'lek, Bothan, Hapan, Hutt, Ssi-Ruuvi... I think those are all the ones that have enough background information to make them coherent and operable. I would suggest that out of those, Yuuzhan Vong, Chiss and Mandalorian are the only ones that would be appropriate. I have already seen characters from each of these cultures; there are plenty of books on each (the NJO series for Vong, most Zahn books for Chiss and the Jacen Solo series for Mandalorians) and all three have their own languages (to the extent that they could be used within roleplays for small amounts) whereas none of the others have those. Killiks come close but no cigar! So my suggestion is - Sith faction, maybe Krath, is the best option. Neutral factions are plausible but difficult and I would suggest Chiss, Mandalorian or Vong out of those! I hope Ceel thinks I explained myself enough too

While this view would be maintained by some Sith, I am certain that IC wise the view would seem counter productive to many Sith who prefer not leading armies, and instead like to introduce change in the Galaxy by their own hand, while sticking behind the shadows and building up their strength. While I see TSC as a vast conglomerate of many Sith Masters who although rarely ever try to work together still realize that coexistence is a better alternative to complete annihilation in a civil war. Not so, with this new faction. It would be united and driven to achieve a particular goal (Could be like a really long term goal such as conquer Naboo, or conquer Korriban or some such). Or they could be fanatics devoted to the ancient Sith religon, more a cult. This would make it a polar opposite of the current Sith Faction and at the same time a very credible threat to both Jedi and the surviving Sith.

I don't think it will. Like I said, there are a number of ways your character could become a Corporation character. Join the Empire, set up a Corporation, have fun bribing stormtroopers and dealing with politicians. Join the Rebellion, set up a corporation that is a safe haven to the Rebellion, maybe even a secret base, or you could become a supplier. Or join TGU, where you can set up legitimate businesses. Or create a Rogue character, there are plenty of those. And if you have a problem with a faction, pm a TGC staff and we will discuss it and solve it out in the staff forum. I never knew there was a problem at TGU. Last time I was there I caused a small problem, but it was fixed quickly Other then that there has been nothing else on TGUs problems that make it "boring" as I think one of you called it. Making a faction just to spread the neutral population thinner then it already is when there are plenty of opportunities in other factions is not a good idea at all in my opinion. If there is a problem, I think we can fix it in any faction, you just have to talk to us.

I myself have thought about making a Vong character a lot but there isn't really a for sure place for one here. Adding a faction based on only one member though is silly and if I was creative enough and reallly wanted to make it work I'm sure I could. I just like something like the Vong because it is different than the other factions. They have very different goals and judging by what we saw in the books they really created some controversy over the galaxy. They however are not the only faction to do that and I'm probably partial to them because the NJO is the series I know most about. Some of these other things like the Chiss, Happan, or others I am not familiar with so can't really form a decent opinion on them. As for the Sith faction there might be interest in playing a witch. We have had some members join and want that, figure out they can't have it, and add it to the back story. We could create a faction of just senators or something but that might be boring and tie to much into other factions. I do know in the NJO the Jedi sort of split but I don't think our Jedi should.

As for people who don't join factions because they supposedly don't fit their character........give me a break. Its a !% game, and our rules are not strict. Factions are not for characters who all think and act alike. Thats boring. Its the differences between characters within a faction that make the faction interesting.

If the problem with the Galactic Underworld is that it only emcompasses the 'Criminal' aspect of playing a neutral character then just change the name to an Alliance of Independant Systems (Which just gave me an idea) or Something that all of the random non-Jedi/Sith and non-Imperial/Terrorist can fit into. Hell, allow subfactions to exist in that faction alone. Mandalorians, Corporate Sector Authority, and all of the other exciting ideas that TGC members have. That would make the faction more fluid and alive, Hell even make it into the Confederation of Independant Systems/Separatist. Any random Neutral group could fit into that category. Even allow there to be a rogue force user subfaction (just throwing ideas out there). This would solve the current debate over forming a new neutral faction: Don't, just convert our current underworld into an all encompassing group of subfactions in an IC alliance (Including criminals). I think a new LIGHTSIDE faction would be really cool actually. Jedi whom use untraditional methods in comparison to TJC and have much less resources. Not too much to go off of. I think a new lightside faction and darkside faction would both benefit the Galaxy. The point of RPing isn't to limit your options but to expand them. It would be interesting to see Faction Creation open for a period of about a month and see how many new and unique factions pop up.

That kind of think just can't be allowed today. When we had nearly 40 factions at once, we had the population to sustain it... Would I like it if this were possible today? Of course. But right now it simply isn't.
