Dead Shot Private 1st Class Sweet & Delicious
At the mention of that horrible nightmare of a mission on
that death trap of a ship and the mutated beasts that were found within, Ivory’s
eyes seem to fog over as her mind flashed back to the horrors she had faced.
She could still feel the grip of the spider’s mandibles upon her lower leg, the
sting of the acid that had started to burn through the armor of her suit. Ivy
didn’t realize it but she was starting to shake as tears began to collect along
the bottom line of her eyes. She might have screamed out like she sometimes did
at night thankful that it was just herself in that house, if it hadn’t been for
Magnus’s voice changing the subject to something she was more, much more
comfortable talking about.
Snapping out of the flashback, Ivory looked at the tall and
muscular giant, then again, anyone was a giant compared to Ivy’s five foot and
five inch frame and that was without the heels she was currently sporting.
Trying to show that the mission on the Doomgiver hadn’t affected her like it
had, the little chef from Kessel just smiled at him, her hands clinging to her
clutch purse like it was a life raft. “Yes, a self-taught one in fact. I just hope the people
that do bid on me remember that that is the only thing I’m offering when I put
myself on the list.” She tilted one shoulder up to her ear as if to rub
at the body part but really she was embarrassed by the man’s compliments of her
“I’m not so sure about beautiful, I mean there are much
more attractive ladies around than I. I mean after all I swear I saw one of the
Pelin’as of Hapes Prime on the list.” She meant Evony naturally.
“I think the world needs more politeness, so many
people trying to hurt each other. I mean I understand why people battle and
things like that, I mean heck I defend my possessions to, but when people are
cruel just because they want to see someone else in pain that’s just wrong I
think. I mean think about how much more money could be raised if people had
come out to help the Coven instead of being spiteful and wishing them doom and
gloom.” Oh trust little Ivory to always want to see good in people even
when she could see the evil that was there as well.
It seemed this man wanted to keep some kind of list of
qualities that she possessed for some reason, though a part of her found it odd
to do such a thing when it came to a somewhat complete stranger. Ivy also found
it a little well on the cute or rather enduring side as well. “Careful
that list might be a short one.” The chef didn’t really see many good or
rather great things about herself, though she did have a fondness for her
cooking talent and secretly thought she had really attractive eyes.
“Oh um sure, just a,” She paused to think about
what the drink might be, “I think they call it a virgin Blue Passion. I don’t
usually drink unless its wine to go with food, a nip of brandy in my hot tea
just before bedtime or when I celebrate something and then my drinks only
involves vodka liquor bases.” She wasn’t about to tell him that one of
her favorite drinks was known as a Sex on the Velusian Beach. Ivory looked
around wondering if they might be serving any kind of appetizers or finger
foods at this event. “You’d think that they be offering some food to go with
all the drinks.”
Blake had been so sure that he would have the winning bid
when some man he didn’t recognize suddenly spoke up trying to win the auction
of the Pelin’a. The Fel’da actually glared at the man as he trying to figure out
whom he belonged with as it certainly wasn’t with the Consortium and he had
never seen that man among the high ranking members of the Coven. He would have
to speak to Evony and security about it later on, in private. Thankfully, however,
that mystery man didn’t win as Axel’s voice rung out with the maximum bidding
price that had been clearly preset by the Charity event organizers.
Chuckling Blake hung back to watch the proceedings between
his crowned prince but most of all his lover and Evony’s little shadow. A singular
eyebrow was arched in slight puzzlement toward the silence of his brother and
just what level of attraction there was being the Pelin’a and her well whatever
Valderon was to her on a Consortium level. While that little scene played out,
Blake walked up behind the Chume’da and whispered to his ears only, “You just love making your siblings
dance upon a bed of live coals don’t you?”
Moving toward a stool that was by a high table, Ivory
carefully gathered up the tail of her dress so she could sit down without
tearing it. She placed her purse on the table’s top as her eyes scanned the
room. So many people had turned out for the event and yet as she looked at the
stage she realized that someone was up and yet it seemed no one wanted to bid
on him. Ivy really hoped that such a thing didn’t happen to her when she got up
When Magnus returned with her drink, Ivory accepted it as
her fingers accidentally brushed his upon the retrieval. “Thank
you, I don’t want to be drunk when I walk up those steps. That would be so
embarrassing. So besides to help the witches, what brings to you the auction,
someone special or was it a dare by someone on your fleet?”
Ivy began to draw a circle around the rim of her drink’s
glass, her eyes watching the pattern that seemed to just play out in her mind.
She had yet to actually take a sip of the refreshment but she was a little shy
when it came to admitting that she had no one. Finally she released a nervous
chuckle before speaking. “I have no partner, at least not in that sense that I
think you mean. There was someone once but I felt that I wasn’t good enough for
him so I left. I didn’t even say goodbye because I knew if I did he would try
very hard to convince me to stay.” She smirked as she remembered Kane’s
stubbornness back then.
“He was a bit hardheaded when it came to logic most of
the time. So I left went back to Kessel and the mining colony where he had
originally found me. However I didn’t stay there long knowing that he would
look there first. Since then I had traveled around the galaxy working in small
time diners as a cook, even cut my hair once to try and blend in. I feared what
would happen if he found me.” She took a sip of the virgin blue passion
to wet her lips and throat before continuing on with her story.
“However I stopped trying to hide as I thought it had
been long enough for him to move on. I was right of course as he’s found a
woman he loves so much that he got his dream finally. A wife and children. So I
agreed this time to come back and take training from his sister so I could
defend myself. He’s the one that gave me a house and inside it my dream home kitchen.
Though somehow I let him and his sister’s training make me believe I could be a
different kind of warrior. That’s why I was on that damn ship when you rescued
me. I was trying to play hero when I should have just stuck to being a
He sounded a bit like Kane when he remarked how the men of
the galaxy had lost their minds for not having tried to get with her. Truth was
many had tried and she had turned them down, either politely or by jamming a
utensil like a fork or knife into their bodies somewhere where it would be the
most painful and would leave a lasting impression. “Oh a few have
tried in ways I didn’t accept so they got forks or knives as greetings or
warnings.” It had been that skill that had made Cuyan focused on them
during Ivy’s combat training.
“I’m not a warrior like some other women, some guys
need warrior women in their lives. Hell you saw how quickly I was taken down
back on that ship. I wouldn’t last a day on a battlefield if given a weapon. No
give me a stove and oven and I’m happy.” She was more determined now a
days to stay behind a different kind of range.
Ivory shook her head, reaching out for Magnus’s hand in a
hope that it would stop that kind of talking. “Please he was
a good man. I … I just let my fears and doubt rule my actions. I’ll not be the
kind of woman that tries to steal a man out of his happiness just because I had
feelings for him.” She still cared for Kane as he would always be a part
of her life but she had a big heart and wouldn’t ruin his life just because she
dreamed of the very thing that Kane now had in his life.
“Surely you understand that sometimes to bless a person
with happiness you have to walk away from them. No matter how much it might
hurt you for having lost something that was special.”
