The Gungan Council's forum listing has gone through many changes over the years. Forums have come and gone as ideas passed or failed, and of course the creation of the TGC Role Playing Galaxy brought on the need for great change in Mid 2000. The TGC "Top 5" lists have a long tradition at TGC. From 2001 to 2003 they were a regular part of role playing activities here, and were featured in the community side bar. In 2003 and 2004 and 2005 however, the custom gradually died until such lists were only voted on and created once or twice a year with little fanfare. This is thread will catalog our an attempt at renewing this old custom. The thread also contains a semi-complete list of former winners as recovered in various web archives.

Hawk Hinata: 29 During the last week of February 2006 the Jedi and Sith of the galaxy, from all factions (Which at the time included The Jedi Coucil, The Jedi Brotherhood, and Dark Sith Order, Regnum In Potestas) came together to elect the first ever galaxy wide Jedi and Sith high councils. The final results appear below. Each list consists of a number of players equal to exactly 1/4 of all active Sith or Jedi in the galaxy. Council members keep their positions for exactly 2 months before a new election is held. As the first generation of ezboard role players grew in experience, so too grew the complexity role playing. As new problems emerged, new rules were invented to regulate the players. Those crafting the rules hoped to, at once, preserve peace in the community and increasing they enjoyment of the game. As layer after layer of amendments piled up, it eventually became clear that the flaws of the system ran too deep to ever be corrected by attempting to plug mere loopholes. With this in mind, the entire system was eventually dropped at The Gungan Council. NOTE: The information which follows represents the regulations of The Gungan Council circa. 2001. These are not the current TGC rules and should be used only for historical reasons. ROLEPLAYING RULES The Big Three 1. No killing unless both chracters agree to it. 2. No maiming. 3. SW Universe Only. Other Rules 1. Do not fight authority (Admins, Mods or Ceel) if it is in out of character discussion. 2. No interfering in Lightsaber duels unless you receive permission from both sides of the duel 3. God Moding will be defined by the Brass, not by the roleplayers comitting the crime themselves. 4. No God Moding (defined below) 5. Ability and respect are a reflection of your characters time here in the galaxy, and the role playing and training he/she has done. God Moding God moding is, but not limited to, all of the following. It would be impossible to list every situation so here are some general guides. The staff will decided when the act is in question. 1. Breaking any of the rules on this page. 2. Intentionally bending or otherwise acting to get around any of the rules on this page. 3. Using loop holes that you know are destructive to the cause of an enjoyable role play. (If such a loop hole is discovered it should be reported to the staff.) Consequences 1. Three strikes and you're out- Three warnings will be given to for breaking rules. STRIKE ONE: Posts will be deleted to correct broken rule. STRIKE TWO: Posts will be deleted to correct broken rule and your screen name will be banned for 5 days. STRIKE THREE: Posts will be deleted to correct broken rule and your screen name will be banned forever. 2. Stikes will be decided by the staff and will be kept on public record. IP Ban: If your screen name is banned you are welcome to return as a different character. But if you return with a that new screen name to cause trouble an IP Ban my be enstated by one of the Admins to prevent additional problems. FLEET RULES 1. Only 3 shipyards per planet 2. You may not have a customer shipyards but allies can use the yards with permission and as long as they have a group and planet if they have a ship 120 meters or over. 3. There is no limit to the shipyards as long as there is a planet for them to orbit 4. You may build 50 capital ship per planet you own there are no limit to fighters because of there size. (Side note: This is to keep things more realictic because you ships do requere maintance and I planet can only produce so much.) 5. There will be one shipyard size to make things simple, 40,000 meters 6. Shipyards can produce anything such as ships, droids, subs, and any other non - living items. 7. 40,000 meter shipyards take 40 day to build and must be posted stating they are building 8. only 3 shipyards can be built at one time 9. Each group will start with one planet to speard their empire from. (Example : Since the sith recently took over Xa Fel this would be their start base, The gungans would hold Naboo since it is the place they inhabit.) 10. All ship will be scraped and all shipyards will be scrapped(Reason : This will give everyone a fair chance at fleet RPing and it will make sure that all the rule will be obeyed from the start as well as give a group a chance to start producing small amount of ships and other things at the begining.) 11. All planets are free of the rulers at SWfans and are open for take over. (Side note: If any of the other groups outside of TGC want to take over a planet and want it legal at TGC they must take it over in TGC battleground.) 12. 40k shipyards produce 500 meters/day and 4 starfighter squadrons per day 13. When a group dies and is removed from the Galaxy its assets die with it. The Planet becomes open again 14. No merging shipyards Battle rules 15. You must allow the enemy time to reply 16. You must damage ships over several post (Side note : To make things more realitic if you have a ship like a super star destoryer against a gunship then you can destory the gunship in like two posts, the ships shields, hull and weapons will detemen how long it take to destory a ship but it must be reasonable.) 17. You must first post "Charging superlaser" in one post and the next post you may fire. You must give the enemy time to respond 18. Fighters may be destoryed in one post if done by a ship larger then 4 km 19. Fighters in dogfights with other fighters much be destoryed over 5 posts 20. Flagships and fighter with charachers flying or on them can only be disabled not destoryed 21. Sun Crushers are banned Planetary Defence 1. There will be 3 types of planetey battries to keep things simple, Laser Series 1, Laser Series 2, and KDY ION cannon( like the ION cannon on Hoth.) 2. The battle will go in rounds of fire like, You attack a planet you get to fire first, then it is the enemys turn to fire the planets defenses. 3. Laser Series 1 will take 10 days to build on a shipyard an takes one maintance point, it does 800 damage.(Compare shields and hull of ships once the shields are down then the ships takes hull damage) 4. Laser Series 2 will take 40 days to build on a shipyard an take no maintance point to run, It does 3,000 damage(Compare shields and hull of ships once the shields are down then the ships takes hull damage) 5. KDY ION cannons will take 20 days to build on a shipyard and takes no maintance points to run, it does 2,000 damage.(Only to ships shields and system first you must down an enemys shields then you may start to disable it, this also makes it much more easy to escape from a planet just in case.) NOTE: For a partial list of ship statistics, visit the Star Wars Ship Database. R&D RULES 1. You may not build another groups ships that they designed without permission or a really good roleplay of stealing the plans. 2. All ship designs must be reasonable such as shielding, hull, and weapons for its size. 3. No ship design size may exceed 200,000 meters Design Times 1-120 meter ship designs will take 10 days to research 121-500 meter ship designs will take 20 days to research 501-1,000 meter ship designs will take 30 days to research 1,001-4,000 meter ship designs will take 40 days to research 4,001-8,000 meter ship designs will take 50 days to research and you must have atleast 7 shipyards 8,001-16,000 meter ship designs will take 60 days to research and you must have atleast 10 shipyards 16,001-32,000 meter ship designs will take 70 days to research and you must have atleast 10 shipyards 32,001-64,000 meter ship designs will take 80 days to research and you must have atleast 12 shipyards 64,001-128,000 meter ship designs will take 90 days to research and you must have atleast 15 shipyards 128,001-200,000 meter ship designs will take 100 days and you must have atleast 18 shipyards JEDI KNIGHT REQUIREMENTS Minimum Training Time: 1 month. Can vary with the Padawan's given skills Minimum Number of RPs: 2, no exceptions to lessen the load Minimum Number of Duels: 2, Spars and duels against the Padawan's Master do not count Character Development: Set name and background for the character RP Skills: Decided by Ceel and the Jedi Council as the Padawan goes along Trials: Held in here by the Jedi Council The members of the Council are: Danster, Organa, Clegg, Saace, Amnde NOTE: These are just the bare minimum requirements. On July 12 1999, as revealed in the TGC Role Playing Hall of Fame Timeline, the Star Wars vs. Titanic forums at SwFans.Net endured a split. The result of that split was the formation of a new set of forums, forums that would eventually become Coruscantcity.net. These events in 1999 in many ways echo the schism which later resulted in the formation of The Rebel Faction from TGC in November of 2001. The information that follows is a copy of the email which went out on July 7, 1999, alerting members of Swfans.net to the situation. Such is the way of life and so it is with these words, that we begin anew. Four days ago, members of this forum joined together to discuss the future of our message board. With the recent turmoil that had struck and continues to strike these forums, it was decided that action had to be taken. We should first explain the numerous problems that have caused us to take action. These forums, as most do, had few problems at its inception. Over the course of two months, circumstances have arisen which are intolerable. These boards have become a tyranny, a tyranny ruled by one man - JasonF much the same way the Empire was ruled by Palpatine. "Just drop it, whatever I say goes basically." - JasonF "If you can't deal with this, tell me. You truly over estimate your position here. These are SWFans.Net forums. True the visitors that go here make up the forums content and structure. But unlike Naboo, this is not a democracy." - JasonF It is our sincere belief that a message board should be a democracy - we believe posters and users of the board have the final say. Decisions should not be made by someone who is never on the board, nor who understands the general feelings of its posters. It is the people who have invested so much of their time and energy into the board, and so it is the people who deserve to have their opinions carried through. A number of complaints are therefore brought forward: 1. Sole dictatorship of the forums by JasonF 2. JasonF's position on the forums, which reflect his commitment to our community - "The forums are a very small aspect to SWFans.Net and i really could care less about them. If people aren't enjoying themselves then maybe the forums should just be taken down." - JasonF 3. Removal of CountryBoy and The Lounge Lizard as moderators by JasonF - despite the fact that 95%+ of the posters on the forum voiced their disapproval along with good reasoning, JasonF was unmoved. Rest assured, in a democracy, this would not have happened. 4. Trolling by members including JoshuaHarris and Rhodes - JasonF took no action, and did not investigate why CB and LL took action against trolls. Rather, he reprimanded them and did nothing to the trolls. 5. Slow reactions in responding to problem users such as solo, darth, etc. And so, action was taken. The new, "Star Wars Forum" is at: http://206.86.100.18:8080/bstarwarsforum Nearly 30 of the most active posters on these boards have already been informed of and agreed to move to this new forum. A list of those people can be found below. By the time you read this, emails of this message will have been sent to every forum member for which we could find an email address for. The new forum has multiple admins, who most importantly, are regular posters. The current admins include Palpatine, Jonathan, The Lounge Lizard, Rmiao, Foxdvd, and CountryBoy. This forum will be a democracy in which the people of the forum - the posters, decide how the forum is run. The forum will be exactly the same as the old forums, but with a different government, a democracy, not a dictatorship. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to go to the new forum. "Out with the old, in with the new." ALL posters are welcome, regardless of their opinions on Star Wars or other movies such as Titanic. The only difference will be that in the new forum, "trolls" will not be allowed. In other words, Titanic lovers, come on in! =) Finally, a number of posters are also web designers and programmers. We intend to create a quality, main web page so new users from the internet will continue to come to our boards. In the meantime, the forum's location will be advertised in numerous ways, so we are assured that there will be a steady stream of new posters. The Jedi Council (TJC) of The Gungan Council Role Playing Galaxy has a long history. That history reaches back to the very dawn of the community, months before TGC's involvement with Swfans.net, and months before the formation of our galaxy. What follows is a timeline of The Jedi Council's emergence BRANCH 1: FORMATIVE ERA -Gungan Warriors and Gungan Jedi know as "Jedi Gunga" are trained side by side in Otoh Gunga. -Trains Clegg Holdfast, first student to reach Knight Status at TGC. The Jedi of SWFans.Net Following the creation of CoruscantCity.Net and the movement of many posters to the new board, a small group of posters decided to remain at SWFans.Net. It was these posters who decided to reestablish a new Jedi group, based upon the original, but to have it continue to operate on the original board. This group was founded in late July 1999 by a poster called CMJ, and he was appointed the first leader of the new group, titled The Jedi Council which was at the time limited to just 12 members. In addition to a leader, 2 deputies were elected - Atreyu and RUIN KAI V3. Together they made up the first leadership body of the new group which also included members such as jjwr, obiwan2, Kiranna Organa and searching4Callista. Despite initially following the original guidelines set out by the original group the new Jedi began to alter and change their guidelines to suit their own needs over the next month or so. Things such as the ranking system based on number of viewings of Episode 1 were abolished in favour of a ranking system based on the amount of posts one did. In addition to this the old member limit of 12 was abolished as it was considered too restrictive for a group wishing to grow. As time progressed and more changes were being carried out the group finally decided to fully reinvent itself, renaming itself The Jedi Order in late August 1999. The original leadership body was replaced by a council consisting of 4 members - the first being CMJ, Atreyu, jjwr and obiwan2. Finally the revised ranking system based on posts was also abolished and instead decided on an individual basis per roleplayer based upon quality of posting and length of time served to the group. 5. The Reunification As more time progressed the former animosity between CoruscantCity.Net and SWFans.Net quickly diminished, and by September 1999 roleplayers from both boards were beginning to post and contribute at each board. At first the 2 Jedi groups remained separated, claiming to be united in their cause yet still aligned with their respective board, however it didn't take long before members from both groups proposed an idea to merge the 2 Jedi groups into a single entity. Despite this though other members still preferred to maintain each group's individuality and retain the traditional setup of each board having its own Jedi group. As a result the proposal was initially dropped and the 2 groups remained apart but agreed to work with each other, resulting in the formation of The Jedi Alliance in October 1999. At first the 2 Jedi groups continued to treat each other as separate entities however as time progressed its members began to see each other more and more as members of a single group. As a result of this thinking both groups decided to revisit the merger proposal and by November 1999 the Greater Jedi Order had been founded, consisting of members from both CoruscantCity.Net and SWFans.Net. If you visit TGC, its factions, affiliates, and chatrooms, for at least a few hours you will undoubtedly hear the term 'Golden Age' enter the conversation on more than one occasion. For those who have been members of The Gungan Council since 2002 (or earlier) no explanation is required. Increasingly, however, it has become apparent that members who joined after 2002, are left dumbfounded when the conversation turns toward this, elusive, mystical, and wonderful period of TGC's history. The Golden Age refers to the period of time from the founding of the current TGC board on January 26, 2000, to the November 2001 schism that culminated with the splintering of the galaxy into two communities: The Gungan Council and The Rebel Faction. More specifically, however, Golden Age is the name assigned to the period from June 2000 to June 2001, in which many believe TGC reached its first creative plateau. To understand the Golden Age it is necessary to first understand the circumstances that brought it about. In early 1999, as a response to growing anticipation for the first new Star Wars film in more than 20 years (The Phantom Menace), a wave of Star Wars fans, and fan sites, swept across the internet. The creation of Ezboard right around the same time played perfectly into the hands of these fans. In early 1999 the Star Wars VS Titanic ezboard (Later known as Swfans) was created on Ezboard's original 'server 1.' The message board quickly attracted more than 150 role players. Among those members were the first inhabitants of The Gungan Council, but that comes later. Around the same time that role playing began on the new Ezboard system, another popular role playing phenomenon was also getting under way. The Star Wars channel at TalkCity Chats had recently opened, and had many members in common with Swfans.net. Chat members who were unfamiliar with Ezboard found their way to it from the chats. Among those making the 'leap' to Ezboard were several key figures in the development of message board role playing. (See Hall of Fame: Section One) The blending of these two sources led to the quick growth of a 'Galaxy' of factions centered around Swfans Role Playing. In early 2000, a young Gungan Council found itself drawn into the growing web of Swfans.Net. From the perspective of TGC Role Players, the quickly maturing Swfans was the pinnacle of RPG entertainment on the web at the beginning of 2000. By the middle of 2000, however, it became apparent that Swfans' success had finally fallen prey to growing pains. Left discontent by the failure of Swfans to deal with these internal issues, The Gungan Council began to strike out on its own, paving the way toward its own Golden Age Even before our official break from Swfans in January 2001, The Gungan Council Role Playing Galaxy, as we know it, began to take shape. Newly emerging factions like The Ewok Council quickly aligned themselves to TGC. Updating what were seen as flaws in the Swfans system, TGC bypassed unwanted early growing pains, and quickly began a trek up the ladder of success. The Golden Age was the time of The great three pronged "Battle of Naboo," in which Itala Marzullo and The Sith Council laid siege to Naboo by Air, Sea and Land in a battle that raged to over 400 posts in just six hours on a hot Saturday Summer night in 2000. It was also the time of "Journey into the village of the Magi," one of the first long role plays in TGC history. It was the era "The Gungan Civil War," in which an insane General Ceel, deemed unfit to rule, led his followers in an attack to retake his rightful power from his successor Organa Solo, although the General was indeed unfit. Most importantly, however, The Golden Age was a time of Out of Character peace, a time when all members worked hard to achieve a common goal, and a time when we were all a bit more innocent. Looking back on the Golden Age is a bitter-sweet activity. For those who lived it, each year that passes is a struggle to recover something that is felt to be 'lost.' To those who did not live it, The Golden Age is something to learn from, and something to strive to live up to, so that someday they might be able to look back on their own time at TGC, and recognize an era that is just as Golden. by: Ceel The collapse of The Golden Age in mid 2001 was inevitable. Coming off its first full year as the hub of a galaxy, the growing pains that had been avoided for so long finally caught up with The Gungan Council that summer, but none could have foreseen just how far the community would tumble in the six months that followed. With the growth of The Gungan Council as a galaxy, the members who populated the community increasingly came from sources that had not been associated with the Swfans Forums or the TalkCity Chats. As a result of these different origins, many of the new members did not hold the same ideals and expectations, as the founding fathers, for what the TGC Role Playing experience should be. In tandem with the arrival of this 'new generation' of role players, the 'old generation' had begun a natural metamorphosis. While many from this group made the passage from junior-high to senior-high, a smaller group was setting out on a journey from senior-high to the more independent young adulthood of College. The change of attitude that these progressions entailed, coupled with the unchecked freedoms of the internet, created a powder keg at the center of the community. The spark would not be far behind. In retrospect, mass turmoil is very predictable at The Gungan Council. Just two things are needed; a issue of great contention to polarize the member base, and then a completely petty issue to drive one of those poles over the edge. From mid to late 2001 the polarizing issue was without a doubt Fleet Role Playing. The New Order, Eternal Rogue Order, TNSO, Black Dragon Fleet, The Ziost Empire, Vinda Corporation; by the height of the Golden Age all of these, the biggest fleet powers in TGC history were in place. Three months following the collapse of The Golden Age, the sheer mass of the Empires and Fleets that these six groups possessed made it very hard for the 25 smaller groups in the galaxy to gain a foothold. Furthermore, the behavior of a few leaders counted among the ranks of the six biggest groups, tranished the reputation of all fleet role players. The galaxy was now clearly divided; fleet role players and their followers, versus story-role players and their followers. By October 2001 the stage was set. In the final week of that month the powder keg finally went off. Attempting to stem the tide of abusive behavior, a public ban list was created to make an example for those who believed they could continue to disrupt the community without consequence. Needless to say, the idea did not go over well with all members. But what could not be foreseen was the reaction it had within the Staff. Supporters of the ban list polarized around General Ceel while the opposition, both within the staff as well as the community at large, sided with Organa Solo. During his first year of college General Ceel often spent the weekend at home, and took a two day break from The Gungan Council. At the beginning of November, on just such a weekend, the mass exodus which has come to be known as "The TRF Split," or "The Great Schism," came to fruition. When the smoke cleared the following week, 80% of TGC's members and groups had fled, The Rebel Faction had been born, and The Gungan Council Role Playing Galaxy lay in ashes. by: Ceel Welcome to The Gungan Council! We have won our first battle. The Trade Federation has been destroyed and our friendship with the Naboo has been secured. But the War is far from over. The evil Sith who control the Trade Federation are once again growing powerful. Their numbers increase everyday. Ripped from the pages of a popular web-archival site, comes a blast from The Gungan Council's past. From the founding of TGC, until the day the community began to construct the role playing galaxy you see here today, the paragraph you have just read served as an eager welcome mat to all Star Wars fans who passed through our doors. Originally written sometime in early 2000, the welcome message was designed to encapsulate the In Character mission of the small number of members who populated what was then a completely independent role playing community. Not seeming too inappropriate, the message remained a fixture at TGC when the community made the leap to Swfans Role Playing. After our affiliation with Swfans ended, however, it became apparent that the message was no longer broad enough in scope to express the goals of the community. by: Nairi Kintaro TGC has a long history of tremendous highs and devastating lows. On occasion the sheer magnitude of the fluctuation between the two requires that a name be assigned to characterize the given period. The name "Golden Age" was assigned to the period from June 2000 to June 2001, in which TGC reached its first creative plateau. By the Spring of 2005 if became apparent that a new name was needed to identify the tremendous high TGC had come to reach in the shadow of Episode III. And so, the "TGC Renaissance" was born. As was the case with the Golden Age, to understand the Renaissance, it is necessary to first understand the circumstances that brought it about. This means taking a brief trip back to May 16, 2002 and the release of Attack of The Clones in theaters around the world. Suffering from "middle-child syndrome", despite pulling in 310.7M in the United States, Attack of the Clones did little to bolster the ranks at TGC. Those who experienced the Golden Age of activity and creativity generated by The Phantom Menace had expected a Renaissance then, to compensate for the losses of the TRF Split. But the renaissance never came. This is not to say that the community experienced no positive effects from the release of the film, but that any effects fell far below expectations. So, needless to say, by the time the media-machine for Revenge of the Sith began to roll in the fall of 2004, the Star Wars community was primed for an explosion of mass popularity that it had lacked since the beginning of the decade. On November 5th 2004 the first Revenge of the Sith Teaser Trailer hit theaters and computer screens around the world, beginning an unprecedented wave of activity at TGC. The Renaissance had started. With successive additional trailers, TV spots, games, and other merchandise releases leading up to the May 19th film release, new members began to arrive at a rate of 10 per day, with many staying to role play. To put the magnitude of this period into perspective, by the release of Episode III, The Jedi Council alone, reached 120 characters, including more than 55 active padawan learners. As the Renaissance peaked in late May 2005, The Gungan Council, as a community, received between 700-1000 posts on a daily basis, and commonly experienced between 10,000 and 14,000 page views per day. On the role playing side of things, scarcely a day passed when the role playing forum saw less than 150 posts, while some days the forum even went as high as 400. Creatively, the role plays that took place reflected a wide range of styles, abilities, and interests. "Theed Under Siege," a massive 1400 post role play reflected the traditional "multi-faceted attack" style which had been a staple of TGC role playing since 1999 when the Phantom Menace introduced it to Star Wars fans. An equally massive role play entitled "Dark Journeys" featured a more personal character to character relationship approach, while the fleet take-over style reigned supreme in the Fleet-Role Playing Forum. But it is a given fact that all good things must eventually come to an end. Not even the most experienced TGC member, however, could have foreseen the events that befell the community in the months that followed. On May 30th 2005, millions of users across the massive network awoke to find Ezboard inoperable, thanks to the work of a hacker known only as "ezdude". When the network finally came back online nearly a day later, more than 200,000 archived posts, including all old role plays, were found to be missing from TGC. As the system returned to normal in the weeks ahead, TGC's acitivity level resumed at a brisk pace, however it soon became clear that spirit of many of TGC's members had not fared so well. By mid June, the results of this would prove a bane to the community. Amidst the feeling of loss caused by the events of May 30, tempers began to flare throughout the community. These flares eventually manifested in a struggle over what TGC is and has always been, and what others sought to make it. One growing concern had been the use of lightsaber forms, which were not invented until 2002, over the traditional use of imagination in combat. Although in itself, a small matter, the dispute reflected the growing rift between the simplicity of the past, and the growing complication of the present. While some wished to maintain the free form nature of RP combat at TGC, others wished for further sanctioning through the introduction of Expanded Universe principles, while still others failed to adhere to sanctions already in place. Although this specific argument never came to head, it displayed a growing dissatisfaction with TGC on the part of revisionist members, and a willingness on their part to disobey the staff. During the second week of June an old matter, coupled with current angst, came to head, helping to begin fall of the renaissance in earnest. A member who had previously expressed a dislike for TGC, but continued to influence its factions, was found to be spreading rumors about the owner, and encouraging factions to leave TGC and join a galaxy of her own making. When the owner of one of these factions was asked to remove this dangerous member from their staff he did so, only to quickly rethink his loyalty to TGC the next day by quitting, and leaving a member who did not qualify to control the faction in command. Coupled with other factors, including gross misunderstandings on both sides, and personal abuses by the opposing side, two factions had to be dismissed from the galaxy, and several members banned. Within two weeks of these events it was clear that the Renaissance had ended. This sentiment was first expressed publically by in a post made by Jedi Binks in the RP Planning forum, in which he made clear the fact that fun and imagination had indeed been replaced by complication and revisionist principles in contradicted with the ideals that TGC had been founded upon. Finding TGC in a situation in many ways similar to the fall of the Golden Age, Jedi Binks, General Ceel, and other old timers had come to understand that the time for the revival of the old ways was again at hand. by: Ceel When I was nine years old I saw my first Star Wars movie, it was Return of the Jedi. I loved it, I loved it more than any other movie that I had ever seen. There was just so much magic in it. Almost every day from then on I played Star Wars with one of my best friends. We lived the adventures of Luke Skywalker and Han Solo. We eventually were engulfed within the universe, everything we did somehow connected with Star Wars. We owned action figures, video games and our imaginations never ended. When the original trilogy was re-released in the theater for the Special Edition we were at one of the first showings for each movie. In mid 1999 I first saw The Phantom Menace, the first time I saw the movie I was in awe at how great it was to see a new Star Wars movie. Sometime in July of the same year I stumbled across a Star Wars chatroom at TalkCity. Some people were discussing the new movie, but others were doing something I had never seen before, they were writing out their actions as if they were having a lightsaber battle. This idea really intrigued me. I started to get involved and I fell in love with it. From the first time I logged on I decided that I wanted to be a sith, mostly because it is much more fun to play the bad guy. After the first couple of times of chatting I came up with a name that would stick with me until this day, Darth Roul. I chose the name Darth because it is the basic name for all sith. The name Roul came from finding something that sounded similar to Maul, but was still menacing. Roul just seemed to fit perfectly, it was unique and exciting for me. Talk City was great, however the only problem was there was no way to save what you had done so all the history was gone after you logged out. In early August I met a man who would change the way I played Star Wars forever. I met Itala Marzullo. He was charismatic and he gave me something that I had been looking for, a group of people like me who just wanted to play Star Wars. Well the way they played it was by role playing. We began to write elaborate stories about our characters and their amazing journeys fighting jedi throughout the galaxy. The group that I had these adventures with was none other than the infamous Sith Council. Itala taught me how to write an exciting role play that was interesting not only to the writer, but also the reader. A few months into my experience with The Sith Council at SWFans.net I fell out of role playing to focus more on school. Around Christmas in 1999 I found my way back to TSC only to find that it had been disbanded and its glory had died. I made a pledge, being the first to post on the historic pub1 server, that I would bring TSC back to glory. The person who replied to my post was a man named Darth Bane, he was the owner of the board and had been working for the past few weeks to bring Itala back and start the board up again. Once Itala came back it didn't take long for people to join the Council once again. Some of the people who joined at this time were legendary characters such as Gav Mortis, Live Wire and Lady Vader. For the next year we were the dominant sith group at SWFans. Sometime in mid 2000 Itala came to myself with a battle that was taking place on a then somewhat unknown board called the Gungan Council. We came, we attacked and fought diligently against the Gungans. In that day I personally fought a powerful jedi by the name of General Ceel. In the later days of TSC I was finally granted the rank of Sith Master. This was a big day for me because it gave me some evidence that I had proved myself as a role player. However in those days I was also young and unable to see the problems that were brewing at TSC. Sometime in early 2001 Itala went on a leave of absence and left Gav Mortis in charge of the group. It was at this time he attempted to create a council to oversee the workings of the TSC. When Itala returned he did not find this as something he wanted. So many of us left TSC and went on to create The Sith Order. We were then invited to join the Sith Alliance which was meant to fight the large jedi groups at SWFans. A few months into the existence of The Sith Order I came to know of a revolution that was going to take place to attempt to overthrow the current ruling council. I spent some time in league with these revolutionists to gain their trust. Just before the revolution was to take place I unveiled the plot to the council. On that day I made a powerful enemy called Dark Lord Dyzm. SWfans was the next step for me after Talk City, it was nice because you always role played with the same people and all of the posts were still there the next day. However it was too large, there were too many groups and it was tough for me to be able to make a connection at the actual SWfans board. After my falling out with TSO it was time for me to move on to a new place. I was soon invited to come and role play at a now thriving separate galaxy called The Gungan Council. With a new enemy at TSO I felt this was a good time to leave and find a new home. I soon found it with the Eternal Rogue Order. At ERO I role played with people such as Skye Keller. During my short time with ERO I became a better writer, I became more detailed in my posts and I learned how to be more descriptive. These are some things that I think I was too young to absorb at SWFans. I felt that ERO just wasn't the same as TSO, the atmosphere just wasn't there, so I left and became a rogue sith. I didn't want to go back to SWFans because I really enjoyed the galaxy at TGC. Eventually I started a few groups such as a small sith group which only had a few members and died fairly quickly. Soon after that I created my second character, a non-force user named Dyyz Natal. His first assignment was a position in a New Galactic Republic which included some characters played by Danster the Gangster and Supernova. It was a failed attempt to create a light side group after Dyyz was kicked out for hiring a bounty hunter. Soon after which I turned from using the force with Roul to having him work in a crime syndicate called The Mob. Another failed attempt at creating my own group. It was at this time I realized I was not meant to be the head of a group and I became a rogue sith once again. My final role play before I went on an extended leave was in early 2002 called The Oracle. The main concept behind this role play was to search for an oracle that could help Roul see into the future. Nearing the end of the role play I became tired of spending so much time online and I left TGC for what I thought would be forever. During the next couple of years I grew older and a bit wiser. Every once in a while I would stop by TGC to see how things were going, even creating some characters and doing a bit of role playing from time to time. However each time I wouldn't stay for much longer than a month or two. In late April of 2005, admittedly due to a bit of excitement for Revenge of the Sith, I finally made a full time return to TGC, this time as a young sith apprentice named Baruku. I spent a very short time with the Dark Sith Order before I met yet another charismatic man named Darth Octavian. I soon joined his group called the Sith Empire and finished my second sith characters training with them. After the fall of TSE I moved on to help run The Silent Eternity also a faction on TGC. The Gungan Council is the perfect place for me. I love the fact that it isn't too large, yet big enough to still be able to role play with many different people. The Gungan Council is just the right place for me. I still use Roul from time to time to create some chaos throughout the galaxy. It is always fun to use a character that has been around for almost 6 years now. There are a few things that I have learned from my time role playing. First, it is only a game, no one needs to be so serious about everything that we do here. However if you are a group leader you will have to deal with some Out Of Character issues. Second, write well, take your time to make a good post and an interesting story. This is why we are here, to write interesting stories that deal with Star Wars. Finally, we all evolve, we all become better writers and we grow with our characters. by: Darth Roul In May of 2005 Darth Octavain’s Sith Empire fell, due to conflict with the TGC staff. From the Empire’s ashes came a group called The Silent Eternity. This group was plagued with problems from the start; this essay will hopefully shed some light on why the group failed. My only hope is that with this essay people will be able to learn from my mistakes and more factions will not suffer the same fate as The Silent Eternity. The first problem was the board design. Once I became an administrator and a leader I made some drastic changes. The main problem was there were too many forums. People don’t like to look through tons of forums to do their role playing or out of character discussion. The key is too find the right amount of forums. The basic load of forums should include: General Discussion, Role Playing, Training, Recruitment, and Staff. A good board may have more forums than this, but these seem to be the basic ones. Also if you have too many forums it spreads out your posts. If you have a thousand posts on your board and they are spread out over ten forums it doesn’t look like you are very active. People look for active boards. The second problem was the Ezboard hack. This was something that we could not control, but was still devastating to the group. Many members were not using Ezboard anymore and due to this it was just the wrong time to create a new faction. Our timing was simply bad. Third we had a lack of experience, or what people thought was a lack of experience. I have been around on and off since 1999, I have seen and learned a lot of things. The problem was new people didn’t know that. Before you start a faction you need a couple of Masters. They saw we had no Masters and assumed we were all new and unable to run a faction. This is big; people see Masters and know there is experience. Even if you’ve been around for eight years, if you are a Knight, new people will assume that you are still inexperienced. The fourth and final problem was inactivity. A faction can not survive if it is inactive. The leaders need to be extremely active to get everyone else active. We also didn’t advertise enough, without a constant flow of new people it is very hard to be active. Without new apprentices to train, knights stray away and spend less time at the board. We also did a bad job of giving people things to do. We didn’t have enough role plays and out of character activities at the board. It also didn’t help that I was deployed to Iraq at this time and one of the other leaders, Remy Gray, went on vacation. A faction will not lead itself, again our timing was bad. Hopefully the readers of this essay will be able to learn from my mistakes. As long as new faction leaders keep their factions active, have some experience in the faction and have a good layout they should be able to create a fairly successful faction. To create a good faction the leaders must be willing to listen to advice and have a little bit of luck. Now get out there and make the next Hall of Fame faction. by: Darth Roul For the past seven years, the message board known as The Gungan Council, or TGC for short, has been the home for thousands of Star Wars fans across the world, collected nearly a million posts, and has been viewed by millions. Mere coincidence? I think not. Started out as a split from the massive role-playing message board known as SW-fans.net, The Gungan Council began as all boards do, with a single leader and vision. Riding the fan craze of Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace, General Ceel split off from the older message board to form his own board, named: The Gungan Council. With allies and enemies from the start, General feel pushed the board through its first year, generating support and massive membership. Soon new factions joined and the original idea of TGC had to shift to allot for the expanded member base. By 2001 though the board had gotten so big tensions began to flare resulting in a the great split of TGC, an argument that began small that spiraled out of control, that end cleared, resulted in 80% of the membership’s withdrawal from TGC. It was amid these dark times that I came to TGC. As a mere 13 year old, Star Wars fan, clicking on a board to spam, a click that would change my life forever. To understand TGC, one must understand what we are. The name, The Gungan Council, refers to Gungans, a species of Star Wars, of whom the leader of TGC, General Ceel, depicts himself as. The name and very characteristics of the board show it as nothing else other than a Star Wars fan board that happens to allow role-playing. TGC is indeed a Star Wars fan board, there are forums for Star Wars discussion and have been throughout the entire lifetime of TGC, there is silly star wars banter, and of course role-playing. But does the fact that we allow star wars discussion and speculation, role-playing in that universe, and that we dress up as Star Wars characters, make us just a Star Wars board? Many would think so and if they did not end up getting deeper, would back away if they were not a true Star Wars fans. Nevertheless, we shall dig deeper. Looking around TGC at almost any time of its existence one sees the following forums: a welcome or greeting forum, for greeting new members, a general discussion forum, usually under the name of Shmi’s Diner, Star Wars discussion, Box-Office and Entertainment, Polls, and different role-playing forums. Such conglomerates of forums of course find themselves split one by one into many different topics and areas of expertise. Under a microscope, the forums end up being as follows. The general discussion forum, usually known as a diner of some sort, has been the home of silly role-playing and other discussions. Silly role-playing such as any random thing one decided to rant about in character that did not really matter, or just role-playing them being wasted in a bar. The discussions though have been varied and usually well thought out. Discussions spanning from, politics, to getting to know members closer, to informative news both about the board and real world, covered the forum, and of course every once in a while, Sith Lord Dyzm would enter and destroy the place, thus causing a new diner to be erected. The Box-Office and Entertainment forum has been my abode for most of my time at TGC. In the forum, we would discuss pop culture, movies, sports, novels, music, and anything that came to our mind, even cartoons. Throughout the history of TGC, great discussions have been help here from the great Jimmy Page vs. Jimmy Hendrix, debate which created a series known as “Super bowls’ starting with the Super bowl of Rock and Roll, which ended with Led Zepplin being crowned king of Rock and Roll at TGC. Other Super bowls have also taken place such as ones for: composers, movie directors, metal, cartoons, superheroes, guitarists, vocalists, and more! The series is very volatile in popularity depending on the speed of progression and so forth. Other great debates have been spurred by, the Matrix trilogy between its fans and its adversaries, M. Knight Shamalyan movies, and music in general. Music especially has been a recent center-point in the forum as the members of TGC become metal-heads and seek to convert all new members to the true ways of TGC music, and convert them to decent music also known as the metal underground. Many members come around others try to resist, but in the end is always the same result, a new TGCer being born. Some would better know the Poll section as Spam Central, but it is indeed much deeper than that. The poll section is hope for many of TGC’s “spam” threads, where people post to their hearts content in topics ranging from counting, to silly little games, to just post and be silly. However, there are also a very large number of other topics there that are exactly as the section is named, polls. The polls at TGC have ranged from surveys on relationships, to various star wars polls, to which is better between pie and cheese. The epic conflicts of cheese vs. pie still rage on from time to time whenever a new poll is put up referring to such. To some the poll section is just a spam hole to others, its home where they can escape the deep and often volatile discussions in the other forums, where they can just vote and post their thoughts and be done. Role-playing of course is a center-point on TGC for many, this is where the epic battles take place, the great quests, and secret missions, where Stormtroopers and Droids battle, where Sith and Jedi duel, and great fleets rampage. With forums ranging from fleet battles to the battleground, with the OOC forum there for out of character discussion and role-play planning, the role-playing section easily gets a huge chunk of the daily postings at TGC. As TGC progressed through the years, the need for the fleeting forum disappeared as fleet role-plays integrated themselves into the Battleground and heated debates over them ended. The battleground is where the truly epic part of TGC is. The Battleground has hosted the memorable threads in TGC’s existence from the Siege of Coruscant, our first yearlong role-play to the battle of Zaltin one of the longest role-plays ever in existence at TGC. Of course, it is where many members tell their stories for all to see, be it many or just themselves, the stories are told, often in epic proportions, shaping characters, factions, and TGC itself in the process. So what is TGC? Is it truly a Star Wars fan board just for role-playing? Perhaps it is, but it is much much more than that. TGC is not only a Star Wars board, but it is also very much a movie board, and a music board, and a political board, and one for games. It is everything! Is it the staff, led by General Ceel whose heavy-handed ways have kept it going for seven strong years and look to keep it going for even longer? Indeed it is, TGC is everything that every member has ever brought to the board that has shaped the board from the small split off community of SW-Fans to the mammoth of a board it is now, with over 12,000 members lifetime, and nearly a million posts. The Gungan Council has carved its place in the web community; both in the Star Wars and Entertainment and means to continue enlarging its niche, expanding to become the home for thousands more. Many fans will be unfamiliar with the name Skip Shayotovich. We tried - unsuccessfully - to locate him. Those lucky to have the original Dark Empire comics will find his name in the letter pages of issue #1. Other than that, you'd be hard pressed to find him associated with Star Wars today. But on February 25, 1991, Skip Shayotovich pioneered what became modern cyber-fandom, from rumor discussion to websites like TheForce.net. On that day, Shayotovich announced the creation of the Star Wars Echo on FidoNet, and the saga finally got a place to hang its shingle in cyberspace. To be fair, Star Wars has been a part of the virtual landscape from the getgo, starting with the first online services in the early Eighties. And there was a Star Wars newsgroup on the fledgling Usenet (though no one today can remember the group's name). But only a handful of people had even heard of the Internet, and the commercial services were proprietary: you could send e-mail to a friend if you were both on CompuServe, but tough luck if they used AOLÂ… unless you also subscribed to AOL. There was the problem of living someplace that had service coverage to begin with: other fans could be found if you lived in New York City, but what about Newport, Oregon? And even if you managed to jump through the hoops, what could you do? Star Wars lacked an online home to call its own: followers of the saga found their only hope lay with fans of Automan, Ark II and Logan's Run in a general sci-fi forum. Or worse: they had to share the bunks on a Star Trek board. So help me, I'm convinced that the whole Wars/Trek blood feud started when a Trekkie logged on pokey one morning and saw a Wookiee wearing the sacred Mr. Spock Underoos. So apart from fanzines and the occasional sci-fi convention, the fans had no line of communication. We knew others were out thereÂ… somewhereÂ… but without a place to congregate around we wouldn't know another fan was a block away, much less any details of a sequel. George Lucas himself witnessed that fact: the story goes that shortly after A New Hope was released in 1977, Lucas paid a surprise visit to a sci-fi convention in California. During the impromptu Q&A session one person asked "so who is this Darth Vader guy anyway?" Lucas replied: "he's Luke Skywalker's father." Lucas was consciously testing how fast a spoiler would spread through the community, and it's said he was quite surprised about how the revelation in Return Of The Jedi was still unknown to most people. But that's how it wasÂ… and if Lucas tried that stunt today it would be on TheForce.net within a minute-ten. All of this changed starting with the Star Wars Echo: the first virtual location available to every fan with a PC and a modem. Except for major residential areas, most people didn't have Internet access in the early Nineties, but computer bulletin board systems (BBS for short) flourished everywhere, and it was on BBSes that FidoNet was found: an ingenious worldwide network of bulletin boards. Private e-mail could be sent to other users, but most of the correspondence was found in specialized forums or "echoes". Sometimes you paid for FidoNet service, but a generous BBS hobbyist might let you use it for free. For many of us it was our first foray into the virtual realm. If discovering the Internet was like Luke finding Yoda, then FidoNet was Obi-Wan telling us "you've taken your first step into a larger world." From the beginning, the Star Wars Echo was consistently among the most heavily participated areas of FidoNet. It gave die-hard SW fans their forum, and maybe it served the saga itself as a kind of "cultural thermometer". While the Echo launched three months before "Heir To The Empire" heralded the Expanded Universe, the public's interest in Star Wars had fallen into apparent narcolepsy by the early Nineties. Not even Echo founder Skip Shayotovich anticipated any new films: the "greatest source of new information regarding that galaxy far, far, away" was the West End role-playing game, he wrote in his announcement. So for fans starving for Star Wars, with no new movies on the horizon, the Zahn books were like magic waters... and Echo members reciprocated by igniting the flames of the "great canon debate" soon thereafter! The Echo was helping prove that Star Wars hadn't died from the public conscienceÂ… in fact, it was only just beginning to come alive. And for the first time, it wasn't just the fans coming together: people directly involved with Star Wars began visiting the Echo to "meet" the fans in open dialogue. Kevin J. Anderson and Kathy Tyers posted to the Echo occasionally. Timothy Zahn popped in a few times. At least one Echo-lite went on to leave a mark on Star Wars lore: Dan Wallace, author of The Essential Guide To Planets, participated. The first morsels about "Shadows Of The Empire" came from visiting Lucasfilm reps. Naturally the initial tidbits about the prequels - back in the day when an armor-clad Kenneth Branaugh was flying the Millennium Falcon against an army of Spaarti-cloned Mandalores - became a hot topic. At the same time Lucas was starting to write Episode I in his battered red notebook, Mike Schwab was keeping the rumors straight in "Out Of The Maw", the newsletter of the Echo. Meanwhile, Echo member Rich Mason was compiling the very slick "Starfighter Command" (see below). Was the Star Wars Echo the progenitor of everything about modern cyber-fandom? There might be a strong argument that it was. Years before Harry Knowles posted his Dewback images to a blank page - the germination of Ain't It Cool News - the Echo was already spilling the goods on the Special Editions. "I think if anything it helped to incubate the development of online fandom," says Brent Lynch, who served as co-moderator (along with Shayotovich) of the Echo during its heyday. But he adds that "when it comes down to it, it was the fans who put it all down on HTML who defined the course of fandom." Perhaps so, but in a time when the total number of web pages in the world could be counted on both hands, the Echo was already hard at work getting Star Wars info to the Internet deprived. Whether or not the Echo was the true forerunner of modern cyber-fandom, the task of acquiring EVERY Star Wars image available did lead the Star Wars Echo to break first ground in the area that most impacts online fanhood: licensed copyright. Prior to the coming of the web, "File Transfer" meant finding a BBS's file area, locating "YODA4.JPG" in the graphics directory and transferring with x-modem protocol (there was also y-modem and KermitÂ… whatever the heck that was). If you got the file before the time limit kicked in (so other people could use the BBS) you could view your image... though it was anyone's guess whether the plundered good would be a still from The Empire Strikes Back or some jokester's airbrushed vintage of Yoda with Shannen Doherty (I'm serious). The frustration in locating Star Wars material led some Echo members to hatch a plan in late 1994: every available image, sound file, video clip and text document relating to Star Wars was going to be found and put together on a single CD-ROM, available at cost for Echo members. It would have been easy, considering there was so little digital Star Wars media in existence (compare that to just one bulkmonststrosity like "Duality", true believers!) The project was already well underway when someone raised a question: would Lucasfilm allow for this kind of distribution of its copyrighted material? The members in charge of the CD-ROM asked for permission. Lucasfilm's licensing department said no, and the project was cannedÂ… much to the dismay of the Echo-lites. Some thought Lucasfilm was starting to display animosity toward the fans at best. At worst, Lucasfilm was seen as trying to shut the fan efforts down, and it didn't help matters when the widely reported "Lucasfilm attack" on Jason Ruspini's website came a year later. Following these events, the company began to take the growing number of online fans more seriously, and also started cutting them a bit of slack: sites like TheForce.net owe a lot of their freedoms to these initial tests of fan love meeting copyright protection. The Star Wars Echo had been a leak in the dike. Now the dam had burst, and everyone - including Lucasfilm - realized they had to cope with a virtual deluge. The Echo's impact is the more amazing considering how big an exercise it was to actually take part in the thing! A typical user would dial into the BBS, download all the messages from whatever FidoNet forums he subscribed to, hang up and then use an "offline reader" program to read new mail and compose replies. Then he would dial back into the BBS, upload the outgoing mail, and go through the same thing again a few hours later when the BBS downloaded its next batch of FidoNet. All of this sounds convolutedly schizo today, when "right-click/save to disk" comes second-nature and no one thinks twice about ICQing a friend. But for however primitive it seems, there was a kind of magic reflecting out of the screen that's almost gone today. I was using a slowpoke 486 machine one cold autumn evening, reading Echo mail after posting a few of my own, when I saw it: a reply to one of my messages. From a fan in Germany. And that's when it hit me for the first time: "Oh myÂ… it'sÂ… that'sÂ… those are real people out there!" And that's part of the sadness about the absence of the Star Wars Echo today: it was about other people, not how we made contact with them. No one could talk in real time, but there was time tocompose some thoughts without feeling the "rush" of broadband Internet. There was a real sense of belonging, and of family even, among the Echo-lites. At one point there were plans to have a meeting of the Echo members: Denver was among the destinations talked about, long before the '99 Celebration. A lot of good friendships - some of which continue today - were started on the Echo. But things are more complicated now, in part due to the progress of the very technology that first brought us together. "Because Internet anything really hadn't taken off, by and large in general the caliber of folks participating in FidoNet far excelled any discussion area that has come since," says Brent Lynch. It can't be denied that it's nearly impossible for that kind of fellowship to return, but for those of us fortunate to have participated, the fond memories will always be cherished (though Lynch comments that "the Jedi Council does envoke fond memories" of the Star Wars Echo's camaraderie). So you're probably asking why I chose this for an editorial? It's more a history lesson than a straight op-ed piece, but there are reasons I was led to do this, and I like to think they're good ones. First, it's to give some credit to someone for whom its long overdue: Skip Shayotovich, if you're out there, thank you for all the work that you did with the Star Wars Echo. You paved the way for a lot of the things we enjoy online now, and it's way past time that we said how much we appreciate it. To Skip, and to Brent and a lot of other people with whom the Echo was a first portal into larger adventure, thanks for the memories. Second, it is a history lesson, if for no other reason than to reflect on some very humble origins. The days when "high-end graphics" meant a RIPscrip-ted image of Darth Vader are long gone, but I still get a thrill every time I watch "TROOPS" while thinking about how, just three years before that came out, most people would have only seen the clunky images of ASCII text filing down a screen. It's not right to try to bring back the past, but it also wouldn't be right to not take some time occasionally to consider how we came to enjoy what are now doing as Star Wars fans. And appreciating where we've come from also helps us to think about the ground that we are laying still. This is a new frontier yet, and we should be thankful that our generation is the first to cross into it. We've come so far in just ten years... can't wait to see where we'll be in ten more! The following is Figrin D'an's interpertation of early Swfan's history. The information that appears below was originally posted at Meras.Org, and appears here word for word as it was writen. A quick synopsis of what I remember offhand (not all-inclusive of course, only cover the events that I was very much a part of): October/November, 1998 - Episode I branch of Countingdown.com goes live. "Brandon" spearheads official lineup at Mann's Chinese Theatre in LA. Board has forums for different states and cities for organizing local lineups. Several people who would eventually come to jawafortress/sw vs. titanic posted here, including myself. These people would eventually find their way to other message boards as the greater Star Wars fan base begins to spring up around the Internet. Late 1998/Early 1999 - jawafortress hosts a small message board dedicated to Episode I possible boxoffice. Debate ensues about it's chances to overtake Titanic as the #1 box office film of all-time. Early 1999 (January or February) - Jason and friends found "SWFans.net", a website specificallly dedicated to fandom of Star Wars. The "Star Wars vs. Titanic" forums (hosted by EZBoard) at jawafortress become a part of this new site. Activity on the message board begins into increase as TPM release date approaches. May 19, 1999 - Episode I opens, board membership swells just beforehand. Debate about boxoffice becomes more intense, as many trolls stir up trouble. First signs of roleplay begin to appear, prompting idea for new forums on board dedicated to it. Late May, 1999 - Itala Marzullo, self-proclaimed Sith Master, begins a thread entitled "The Sith Council," in which people officially join the first major RP-related group on the board. In response, sirdizzy begins a thread entitled "The Jedi Council," founding the first Jedi group. In both groups, initial ranks are determined by knowledge of Star Wars and the number of times having seen the original films. Roleplay becomes more of an influence on the boards, as a rivalry and recruiting war between the groups builds. June 10th/11th, 1999 - Two appointed moderators, The Lounge Lizard and CountryBoy, are stripped of their powers by board admin Jason for editing the posts of several well-known trolls. Many on the board demanded that they be reinstated, and that Jason deal with known board trolls/troublemakers more harshly. Jason refused both requests, prompting discussion among several of the boards more active members about leaving and forming a new message board. June 12th/13th, 1999 - Lead by Rmiao and Jonathan, approximately 30 of the board's more well-known members annouce that they are leaving in favor of a newly formed board, known as CoruscantCity.net. The new board functions in a similar manner as the sw vs. titanic board, hosting general Star Wars discussion and roleplay. Most of the leaders of the Jedi Council and Sith Council are part of the move. July to October, 1999 - CoruscantCity.net and SWFans.net continue to function seperately. CC.Net eventually switches from EZBoard to UBB. Both boards swell in membership as roleplaying begins to dominate much of each board. People often post and RP at both boards. The main SWFans.net website, run by Jason, fades from lack of upkeep, and Jason turns over control the message boards to others. Animosity surrounding the "Great Schism" fades as well. Late October, 1999 - The leaders of the Jedi groups at CC.Net and SWFans.Net collaborate and decide the time has come to join forces, reconnecting the two boards through RP. The Jedi Council of CC.Net and The Jedi Order of SWFans.Net become one, founding "The Greater Jedi Order," or GJO, which still exists today. The group continued to RP on both boards, and would later choose to make SWFans.net it's home. *will post more later as I sort through all the old info I have. I don't claim that everything here is 100% accurate, merely that this is how I remember it.* |

SW-Fans.Net Forums From SCIFIPEDIA SW-Fans.Net (often shortened to SW-Fans, SWF or simply ' Fans) is one of the oldest Star Wars play by post RPG message boards on the Internet. Whilst it was originally begun as a place for box office discussion prior to the release of Star Wars Episode I, SW-Fans.Net quickly grew to include areas for general Star Wars discussion, as well as turn-based roleplaying. "Brandon" spearheaded the official lineup at Mann's Chinese Theatre in LA. Countingdown.com had forums for different states and cities for organizing local lineups. Many of these people would eventually find their way to other message boards as the greater Star Wars fan base began to spring up around the internet. Originally, the website and forum were named SW vs. Titanic and were hosted by the larger Jawa Fortress website from late 1998 into early 1999. As the name implies, the original website and message board were dedicated towards the tracking of the boxoffice performance of the new Star Wars film, in particular in relation to James Cameron's Titanic, and was founded by a group of friends and Star Wars fans led by "Jason". Change in Name & Move to ezboard When Episode I opened on May 19th 1999, board membership swelled. Debate about boxoffice became more intense, and many trolls stirred up trouble. The inability to ban members on the original message board saw the site move to the ezboard forum system at the end of May, where membership continued to grow. Shortly afterward, the original SW vs. Titanic wesbite was retitled as SWFans.Net and became an individual entity separate from the Jawa Fortress website. With the change in name, the wesbite and forum were still dedicated to boxoffice tracking but now also focused on Star Wars news in general. Beginnings of Roleplaying In June 1999, the first signs of roleplaying began to appear, prompting the idea for new forums on the message board dedicated to this new development. "Itala Marzullo", self-proclaimed Sith Master, began a thread entitled The Sith Council, in which people officially join the first major roleplay-related group on the board. In response, "sirdizzy" began a thread entitled The Jedi Council, and founded the first Jedi group. In both groups, the initial ranks were determined by knowledge of Star Wars and the number of times having seen the original films. Roleplay became more of an influence on the boards, as a rivalry and recruiting war between the two groups built up. Formation of CoruscantCity.Net On July 10th & 11th 1999, 2 appointed moderators, "The Lounge Lizard" and "C0untryB0y", were stripped of their powers by Jason for editing the posts of several board members who had been accused of trolling. A dispute between the administration team and many members of the board arose concerning the demotion, as well as the concern that the website founders were not doing enough to keep troublemakers in check. The dispute was never settled, leading to discussion among several of the more active members about leaving and forming a new message board. Lead by board moderators "Rmiao" and "Jonathan", approximately 30 of the forum's more well-known members annouced on July 12th 1999, that they were leaving in favor of a newly formed message board hosted on ezboard, later to be known as CoruscantCity.Net. The new board functioned in a similar manner as the original SWFans.Net board, hosting areas for boxoffice analysis, general Star Wars discussion as well as roleplaying. Most of the leaders of the Jedi Council and Sith Council were part of the move. Following the split, some members who remained on the original SWFans.Net board decided to restart the roleplaying amongst themselves. Some, led by member "CMJ", refounded a new Jedi Council, which was later renamed The Jedi Order. Similarly, another Sith group was also established by "Darth Sidious" and "Mara Jade1" titled the Sith Council, later taking the name of The Sith Empire. CoruscantCity.Net and SWFans.Net continued to function seperately into October of 1999. CoruscantCity.Net eventually switched from ezboard to UBB, but both forums swelled in membership as roleplaying began to dominate. People often posted and roleplayed at both boards. As time went on and members of both forums continued to interact with each other, the left-over animosity surrounding the split faded as well. Reconciliation of the Jedi Groups Due to constant interaction between the roleplayers of the 2 boards, the leaders of the Jedi groups at CoruscantCity.Net and SWFans.Net collaborated and decided to unite, reconnecting the two boards through roleplay. The Jedi Council of CoruscantCity.Net and the Jedi Order of SWFans.Net become one, founding the Greater Jedi Order (or GJO) in November 1999, which still exists today in an altered form. The group continued to roleplay on both boards, though eventually SWFans.Net would come to be used as the primary board. Roleplaying at CoruscantCity.Net eventually faded away entirely, although an active community still exists at the site. Message Board Goes Solo Throughout the remainder of 1999 and through the year 2000, both the website and the message board prospered. By 2001 however, Jason and the other administrators of the SWFans.Net website had grown tired of continuing with the place, and decided to close the website. As there was still an active membership on the SWFans.Net forums, it was decided that ownership of the name and board would be handed over to the board administrators. From ezboard to vBulletin SWFans.Net continued to exist in its message board form through 2001. However, by mid-2001 the administration and posters had grown dissatisfied with ezboard, primarily due to the decline in quality of ezboard's free product, the increase in use of pop-up advertisements, and the expensiveness of switching to ezboard's paying product. As a result, plans were made to move the forums from the ezboard network, despite the attempts of the ezboard staff (including ezboard's founder) to try and convince the community not to leave. It was decided that owning a vBulletin message board was ultimately cheaper and a better fit for the forums. After moving from ezboard to vBulletin on September 19, 2001, the forum registered the domain name of SW-Fans.Net (now with a hyphen "-" in the name) and continued to grow as the release of Episode II drew near. After the move from ezboard, there were still a few issues to be ironed out. Some of the non-roleplaying posters who frequented the replica props forums at SW-Fans.Net decided that they wanted their own message board, and departed on friendly terms. Links were maintained to and from the two boards for about a year, and the Replica Props Forum still exists. Classic 'Fans Classic SW-Fans.Net was a place for movie lovers, Star Wars fans, and roleplaying fanatics. The roleplay emerged organically from the players, and the threads were full of fun as well as the occasional prank or two. In addition to the Greater Jedi Order and The Sith Empire, other roleplaying groups soon cropped up, including The Galactic Empire, and the New Republic. In addition, The Sith Council returned to SW-Fans.Net (having previously left with the formation of CoruscantCity.Net), although it would not dominate as the primary Sith group as before. The Gungan Council (founded by "General Ceel" and "Clegg Holdfast") was one of the early roleplaying groups at SW-Fans.Net as well, but due to differences in opinion the board decided to form their own roleplaying universe centered at their own message board. They are still going strong today. Many of the roleplayers operated personal ezboards for roleplay and out of character (OOC) discussion, in addition to the main SW-Fans.Net board and the group boards. Rules were created to reign in those that might abuse the free-form play by post style, including god-moding (such as players attempting to destroy planets in a single post). Infiltration between groups quickly became a problem as posters with multiple accounts would use them to gain access to rival groups in order to learn their secrets. Infiltration was soon a bannable offense. Other primary rules included no character killing, assassination, or maiming without prior consent. Non-player characters (NPCs) were fair game when it came to a quick (or messy) death, but characters which were roleplayed through a specific screenname were the product of too many long hours for their creators to bear the thought of anyone killing them off without permission. Current 'Fans Forum Structure SW-Fans.Net is split into a number of categories, each containing forums dealing with a particular area of discussion, and some even containing sub-forums with further break down discussion areas. Over the years, many forums have been added or removed, depending on the traffic and support particular areas received. The latest major update of the board's structure occured in January 2006. 'Star Wars' Section This is the oldest category on SW-Fans.Net, dating back to the original forum that existed on the original SW vs. Titanic website. Initially beginning with the forum dedicated to discussing boxoffice matters, the section quickly expanded into other areas of general Star Wars discussion. As of 2006, the following forums are available: Star Wars Amalgam - for the discussion of anything Star Wars related. Star Wars Boxoffice & Other Media - for the discussion of boxoffice matters as well as general discussion of film, music and the arts. Collecting - for discussing Star Wars collecting, as well as other areas of collecting. 'General' Section This category is dedicated to general discussion not necessarily related to Star Wars, although it is still welcome. Currently, the forums that exist within this section are: General Discussion - originally the Out Of Character forum for roleplaying, in 2005 this was converted into a general discussion forum unrelated to roleplaying matters. General Gaming - for discussion of Star Wars video gaming, plus video gaming in general. Operations & News - for discussion related specifically to the operations of the SW-Fans.Net site and for news items. It contains 2 main sub-forums: Communications - for the administration to make announcements as well as for fans to make comments, suggestions or report problems with board or account operation. Portal News - for current events relating to the Star Wars Universe and other subjects. 'Creative' Section This category houses the forums dedicated to roleplaying, which for many years has been the most popular passtime of members of the message board: Starving Artists' Apartment - for artists of all types to come together and share their artwork. Roleplaying - for all rolplaying matters. It consists of 3 main sub-forums: Star Wars Roleplaying - for fans to roleplay within the Star Wars Universe. General Roleplaying - for roleplays not contained in the Star Wars universe. RP Discussion Forum - for roleplayers to meet and discuss roleplaying matters out of character. 'Roleplaying Groups' Section This category was established in May 2002 after many of the major roleplaying groups moved to SW-Fans.Net from ezboard. Although they occupy space on SW-Fans.Net, each group still has it's own independant administration separate from the main SW-Fans.Net administration team. Each group consists of a number of sub-forums related to group discussion, training, roleplaying and general conversation: Cloud City - not a traditional group, but a set of roleplaying forums set in Cloud City, Bespin. The Jedi Enclave - a loose gathering of Jedi from around the galaxy. The Sith Order - the main Sith group. Empire/Rebellion - consists of 2 main sub-forums: The Galactic Empire - the base of operations for Empire roleplayers. The Rebel Alliance - the base of operations for Rebel roleplayers. Dark Mosaic - contains 2 main sub-forums: Kuklos Ataxia - a secretive group of Dark Siders, based on Onderon. Black Sun - an organized crime syndicate. Recent Developments Roleplaying Reset In May 2005, prior to the release of Episode III, the board membership decided to reset the main roleplaying timeline. Since its inception in 1999, SW-Fans.Net had never had an official timeline set down, allowing players to pick and choose the timeline they wished to roleplay in. Unfortunately, 6 years of roleplaying had led to confusion as to who was roleplaying when, as well as issues concerning the ownership of planets and claims on particular parts of the Star Wars galaxy. As a result, the reset resulted in a single timeline that all characters and stories would exist within. The timeline was set so as to follow immediately after the Battle of Endor (as seen in Return of the Jedi), however notable differences were set out for the aftermath of the battle: All major characters seen in the Star Wars films were assumed to have died in the battle (to prevent roleplayers claiming film characters). The Death Star II was assumed to have survived (though severely damaged). The Rebels had not been victorious and had been forced to flee from the battle. The Empire had suffered huge losses but still managed to survive (although the Emperor and Darth Vader had both been killed). The end result was an attempt at balancing the sides in the conflict and paving the way for a new storyline to develop from the end of the films. The reset also forced some roleplaying groups to alter themselves to fit in with the new timeline, such as the New Republic changing itself into the Rebellion. The most notable alteration was that of the Greater Jedi Order, which could not exist at the time of the films, and so was retitled The Jedi Enclave and was revisioned as a loose gathering of Jedi that had hidden from the Empire. Addition of General Roleplaying In addition to the reset, the roleplaying section was expanded in January 2006 to include a general roleplaying area. This section was added to allow roleplayers to roleplay in different scenarios and settings separate from the standard Star Wars setting that had prevailed since 1999. Several different settings were established, the most popular being the World of Darkness roleplaying setting. In early/mid 2007 a system of rules by which to govern Bounty Hunting were written by BethanyKismet and General Ceel. It was hoped that such a system would boost the neutral character role playing at TGC much in the same way as planetary take-over role playing has lone done for the galaxy as a whole. The idea was sound, but ultimately TGC lacked the population of bounty hunters to make allow the system to succeed. The system was abandoned on June 12th 2008, shortly after TGC was moved from the original ezboard system to its new home on Yuku. BOUNTY HUNTING RULES Live Capture: All hunts are presumed to be "Live Capture" Operations, unless pre-arranged by role players wishing to have their characters killed. Obviously most people do not want their characters killed, and so if we assume that most bounty hunters are out for the kill, it becomes less likely that anybody will care to roleplay against said bounty hunters. With Live Capture as the new norm, the above issue will cease to be a problem. Escape and/or Rescue Following a successful live-capture the escape or rescue of captured persons will occur in one of the following capacities (As planned and agreed upon by the captured person and the bounty hunter): - As an additional scene in the thread of capture - As a new thread specifically created to explore the escape or rescue - As a series of threads exploring a character's time in captivity and subsequent attempts of escape or rescue Legal Intrusion: A Bounty Hunter may legally enter any roleplay not overtly labeled as "Closed" or "Invite Only" in order to pursue and collect the bounty placed upon the head of another character. This includes planetary takeover threads. Notice: All hunters, please use discretion when entering a thread. Remember that the other role players are there for a reason too, so do your best not to ruin their experience. If bounty hunters are found to be abusing the legal intrusion principle I will be forced to place a limitation on how many threads a hunter intrude upon in any given month. Limitations (on hunting): - Only Bounty Hunters (neutral non force users) registered as members of The Galactic Underworld may hunt. - Only one bounty hunter my legally intrude upon any given roleplay in pursuit of his prey. - If any additional bounty hunters wish to enter the same thread they must first seek and obtain approval from the thread's creators. - A bounty hunter may not intrude upon more than one thread at any given time. (This means one hunt must be completed or abandoned before starting another) - Only characters appearing in the Official BOUNTY LIST THREAD may be hunted. - Stand-Alone (non intrusion) Hunt threads remain legal Limitations (on those being hunted): - When confronted, in character, by a hunter seeking the bounty on your head you must respond within 48 hours. - Failure to respond within 48 hours will result in an automatic capture. (Unless you have posted a LOA notice in the Antechamber prior to start of the hunt) - If a bounty is taken out on you and a hunter comes for you, you may not refuse participation. - In the event of an automatic capture please see previous rules governing escape and rescue - In the event that you are captured, your character's status in other pre-existing roleplays shall not be affected, and you may continue on in those threads as long as you wish. Limitations (On Those Placing Bounties) - Bounty Hunters are prohibited from placing bounties on the heads of others. - Bounties may not be placed at random. What follows is the contents of the short lived "Living History Timeline" which was designed to replace the old Owner's Diary at TGC. Due to a
pack of daily support from the members the project was ended on October 6th 2008, the 3262nd day of TGC.
On February 22 2002 I posted a massive biography of "General Ceel" in TGC's first "Official Character Bio Thread" which had been created 5 months earlier. With that initial bio I also included what amounted to something of an "OOC Bio", or a history of how I arrived in the world of ezboard role-playing and eventually came to found TGC and the major milestones the community had been through thus far. After the completion of that detailed write up my biography lay untouched and neglected until the beginning of 2004 when I again sifted through both memory and archived threads to bring the information up to date. After the early-2004 the updated biography was neglected again, but this time only until the end of 2004 when I separated my IC biography from the ever grown board history and then began regular updates to the board history. Regular updates continued until May 9th 2005 (Just before the release of Revenge of the Sith) when I decided to on making daily updates. The TGC Owners' Dairy was born. The Owners' Dairy ran from June 2nd 2005 until August 30th 2008, and included highly specific data on the "happenings" at TGC, such as board stats, contest winners, current role-playing events and more. On June 4th 2008 The Gungan Council had been moved from its home on ezboard to the new updated Yuku system built by ezboard.inc to replace the old system, but as early as the beginning of 2008 I had already began to feel that the Owners' Diary had run its course and that it was time to move on to something different. Updates to the dairy became sporadic at best during the summer of 2008, and on August 30th 2008 I decided to bring the diary to a close, replacing it with something new. I give you The Living History Timeline. The Living History Timeline is a intended to be a daily chronicle of the OOC and IC events of TGC, intended for entertainment and archival purposes only. The IC timeline IS NOT a binding contract and should in no way be construed as a guidepost to what can and cannot happen in future role-plays. I have always been adamantly opposed to role-playing communities that restrict their members with timelines, and my opinion of timelines has not changed. Day 3227: Jedi Knight Tyen came to the aid of Ashara Solari despite the dark force surrounding Korriban Day 3228: At Kessel, Pirate Queen Saede Taggart and Syndicate leader Arin Ellis continue semi-legal corporate take-over of the Spice Mines. Little do they know, Imperials have taken over management and are closing in for the kill. Day 3229: Kane Smart and nemesis Falcon Ghent set Hoth alight in battle. Hell bent on destruction they cut huge furrows in the ice world's surface as their deadly arsenals are unleashed upon one another! Day 3230: Jedi Master Bethany Kismet and Padawan, Selena Halcyon land at the edges of Hapan space, scheduled receive a Sith Artifact of unknown power from the royal family. But everything is not as it seems.... Day 3231: Lady Velori travels to Ruusan to become one with the Dark Side. Seeking greater power under the guidance of Sith Rachel Sullen and Anesia Jy Vun, her goal: to crush the Galaxy under her relentless heel. Day 3232: Imperial Commandos Xyra Sizhran and Jaedis Falcor pose as smugglers in an attempt to sneak of the besieged planet Kessel and rendevous with the Imperial fleet in hope of reclaiming Kessel from Arin Ellis and the crime syndicate. Day 3233: Nothing to report Day 3234: With all five of its Star Destroyer escorts damaged and unable to continue, the Super Star Destroyer Vigilance commanded by Lady Velori pushes on to the world of Kessel with its legions of Imperial warriors, hellbent on removing the taint of the underground Sultavelm Syndicate led by Arin Ellis from the spice world and demonstrating the truth of Imperial might-- with overwhelming force if necessary. Day 3235: Jedi Padawans Seira Santori and Ayin Kaes travel to the farm planet Dantooine in order to construct their lightsabers by order of the Jedi Council, within the caves full of rare lightsaber crystals. Having snuck onto the Imperial-held world, they remain unsure of what deadly traps might await them. Day 3236: A dead Yuuzhan Vong fleet appears just outside the Korriban sector. Sith Masters Korran Halcyon and Malice Draclau scramble to understand the meaning behind this when they both recieve the same distress signal from Artemis Obauldi, an old friend and ally. Day 3237: Sith Mistress Rach Sullen unknowingly welcomes the crew of the CFR, masqueraded as circus/traveling performers, onto the planet she governs, Ruusan. She is also joined by Sith Master Malice Draclau as the two get ready to speak of some possible alliance between herself and Malice. Day 3238: On the icy world of Rhen Var, Sith Knight Tristan Nathos saves his Jedi sister Jade from freezing to death on a mountain. However, in the shelter of a cave, Tristan comes to realise that his worst fear has come to pass: his sister, the only Nathos Jedi, has finally fallen to the Dark Side. Day 3239: Nothing to Report Day 3240: Bethany Kismet, Jedi Master and Healer, completes a string of testing on Manaan that will create a new vaccine for local virus that has mutated beyond the realm of existing medicine. She does not yet know however, that the Sith, led by the infamous Malice Draclau are preparing to unleash a far more insidious virus on the population of the idyllic water planet. Day 3241: On Korriban, Tris Draclau and Malice Draclau discuss thier plan of how to handle the visiting Vong. Tris reveals his deep hatred for the Vong and waits along side Malice for the arrival of Artemis Obauldi's pod. Day 3242: The remnants of the Jedi Brotherhood have banded together to ward off an attacking Sith invasion. Taking place at the same time as two other attacks on Jedi strongholds, three Jedi Masters have once again set foot on a place they call home, ready to defend it or die trying. The temple has seen it's share of battles and has never fallen, and now where once an entire legion of Jedi would await the impending sith threat, now a handful of Jedi await the coming onslaught. However, they show no fear and prepare to repel the would be conquorers, and move now to meet the first unwelcomed guest. Vohn Exel and Hawk Hinata move from the Crystal Hall to the catacombs beneath the temple, while Relen Zero prepares battle meditation, lifting the spirits of his friends and drowning the enemy in thier fears. Day 3243: Sith Master Mak Manto and his apprentice, Shuyin, study on the planet of Millinar, a legendary world thought to be a legend. Study under the planet's inhabitants is the first stop of many in learn new and destructive Force powers from lesser known orders of the Force. Day 3244: Halik Falkosi and the crew of the Blue Fin land on the underground haven Nar Shaddaa intending to meet with the Tusken Raider Spice Lord Krayt . Little do they know Imperial police forces led by TK 9125 are about to storm the area. Their target... is Halik Day 3245: Pitted between what is right and dutiful for the Sith Order, Raine Marzullo finds herself in an unlucky and unlikely love traingle while leading an operation against the senate of Coruscant. Day 3246: Nothing to Report Day 3247: Tahira Solo battles with rebels in the jungle of Endor for the life and freedom of the Ewoks against the invading and destructive force of the Impire. Day 3248: The fight on Manaan grows. Discovering the Sith's intentions on Manaan Jedi Master Danster abandons his fight with Malice Draclau in an attempt to save the Kolto. Will he and Jedi Master Godalming be in time? Elsewhere Sith Knight Arumi Zy battles against his fellow Sith. What his intentions are are unknown. What will the other Sith think of this act? Unknown to the Sith within the hanger bay Jedi Master Danster has order Ion-Cannon fire on all hangers, effectively scrambling all the ships signals and grounding them. Will the Sith be able to find a new way off the water planet? or will they be trapped there and captured by the Jedi? Day 3249: Nothing to report Day 3250: As the Bounty Hunter guild on Tatooine burns, Saede Taggart, Kane E. Smart, and Kelly Garnier struggle to defeat the forces and allies of Artemis Obauldi. Posessed by the artifact, the Black Lotus, Saede follows the Vong in to the last remaining building in this sector of Mos Espa, Club Dread. Will she be able to rescue Kelly Garnier from the clutches of the insane Steph Zenima? Or will she have to trade much more than she is willing to pay? Day 3251: As the Jedi gather to rest and relax in a subdued gathering on Dathomir, Sasha Caleb's homeworld, the tribal padawan watches from a distance. The ache of homesickness is keen so close to a tribe that she can no longer call home, though she has yet to truly find a home with the Jedi either. Day 3252: Sent by the Jedi Order to investigate the chaotic planet of Taris, Kyle Solo runs into the love of his life, Midnight Rapture. Upon learning she betrayed the Jedi Order by striking down both Tantor and Bethany, Kyle is presented with the ultimate choice... follow the code of the Jedi and turn Midnight in or betray all his teachings and let her go free? Unable to betray the woman he loves, Kyle decides not to turn Midnight in. Day 3253: As the Galactic Empire gears up the final building plans for their new Super Weapon, Artemis Obauldi delivers his last shipement of slaves to the construction site. In a shocking turn of events, the Empire double crosses him, as he is subdued by Storm Trooper TK 9125 and Captain Xyra Sizhran and injected with the brainwashing serum developed by Dr. Delia Rain. Day 3254: As the Sith Knight Arumi Zy betrays the sith on Manaan and attacks their own, Sith Knight Istha Fel destroys the hanger they were fighting. Horribly scarring and possibly killing Darth Fidelis. Day 3255: The festivities on Ruusan are going smoothly...or so it seems. So far Malice and Rach remain oblivious to the Ferrets plans, the group of pirates safely hidden behind their performers visage. Carefully their plan is slowly unfolding, capturing the attention of the Sith and the people, leaving them a sliver of a chance at getting to the hanger bay unnoticed. Day 3256: As Bethany Kismet and Malice Draclau draw their philisophical, but peaceful, debate to a close, other Sith begin to converge on their location. While the two could have parted ways without bloodshed, Bethany is suddenly thrust in to a situation of shocking animosity as the line is drawn in the sand. Will she fight for her life? To defeat Malice? Or to aid him? Day 3257: Alligations by the Wookiee's of the Trade Federations involvement with the kidnapping of a number of their young to be sold as slaves have resulted in an angry group of Wookiee mercenaries capturing and holding a number of Trade Federation leaders hostage. As this dispute escalates Jedi Master Hawk Hinata and Jedi Knight Mike Zenima have been dispatched by the Jedi Council to investigate and act as impartial mediators, however the two Jedi were unable to sense deception from either the Trade Federation or the Wookiee's. A dark plot seems to be brewing upon Kashyyyk, as our Jedi heroes now upon the Wookiee homeworld to investigate the alligations further come under attack from an assassin droid. There appears to be more going on upon Kashyyyk than the Jedi first realized. Day 3258: After the successful evacuation of thousands of rebels suffering under Jessan Solo's rule, the Jedi found themselves entrenched in a battle against the Sith Monarch herself. Jedi on the ground struggled with the possibility of taking her captive, a feat more difficult due to the lack of effective communication during the rescue mission. The mission to help those suffering in the conflict began when a hastily convened council meeting was called by Yoshiro Otaro. The council meeting was called to respond to the potential fallout of the Sith's in fighting, which had manifested itself as a superstar destroyer being crashed into the surface of Coruscant. All but five of the Jedi who originally signed onto the mission have safely evacuated the planet. Tyen Shi and Jessan Solo have been locked in battle for nearly half a day, with the remaining Jedi waiting to lend assistance: there is no end in sight. Day 3259: The Sith attack on Manaan has been devestating. A force storm, formed by Malice Draclau, has swept through and destroyed much of Ahto city, and while the actions of Danster Bokoto, Godalming and others may have saved the Sith infected Kolto fields, the price has been high. As Jedi forces start to regroup, and Sith forces begin their planned flight from the water world, Bethany Kismet, unconscious after taking the brunt of the Force induced tidal wave that destroyed Ahto, found by Ishta Fel and smuggled off of Manaan with the Sith. Day 3260: A strange brotherhood gathers at the Blue Feather Cantina on Sullust. Pirates, Bounty Hunters, Mandalorians, Smugglers, Rebels, and Sith are only some of the mix gathering, meeting with Saede Taggart as she plots the ruthless destruction of her enemies; The Empire, and the Yuuzhan Vong Artemis Obauldi. While some crave revenge for its own sake, like Kelly Garnier and Ellie West, others, such as Vega Van Develd and Kane E. Smart, are there for the connections and favors they owe to the Pirate Queen. Even Angel Hawkmoon, representing the Rebellion, waits to discover what Saede plans for the downfall of their shared enemies.
