"It's finally completed. And it's giving off more than enough energy." A man said from the shadows. "And it's all because you believed in the project. You, all of you, put your money together to create something that can only be described as beautiful." He continued, admiring what the computers were telling him. Everything was going according to plan, even if none of them in the room had been told what the final plan actually was.
"I still don't know how you do it. We've never actually seen the fuel sources."
"Oh, but you have. You just don't know it yet."
That was the line that had been said to all of them before, and it was said to them again. All of them turned to the man, a confused look. One of them, a short elderly gentelman, finally got up the nerve to finally ask the obvious question. "What do you mean? We haven't seen any trucks come in with anything other than building materials. There couldn't possibly have been anything else, at least not that we're aware of. You can tell us what it is."
"Trash. Garbage. Refuse." The man replied, an eerie tone to his voice. "This plant, and more like it, are going to run on the garbage of the universe. It's going to run out, eventually, but for now we can be glad that we're doing this." A wide grin, the man's teeth were showing for all to see. This was, truly, one of his greatest achievements. Perhaps they knew what was coming next, the obvious next step in the face of what he had just said.
"But the workers produced so little trash. And there wasn't any here to begin with."
Then the laugh started. "Oh, you really don't get it." Draequine stepped from the shadows. "But it's okay. I'll be very willing to help out." The grin was still there. "You see, there was a reason why I asked you to hire the people I did. The homeless, the orphans." A bow was taken. "The refuse of the universe has now been removed, but that's only the start. Oh, there's so much more work to be done. And you're all going to help me."
With a snap of his finger, the guards showed up. And each of the nice men were taken to help provide power for the planet in the way that the workers had.
