Not just a flight attendant.
No Wait! I'm the pilot!
A broad smile graced Marina, smelling the new purified air that was now being generated. The generators had indeed come on line. A bit strange sounding sure...but there was power now in this old abandoned station.
Basement? Did her friend just say she wanted to head down some basement?! Marina turned guessingly to Mariya, hoping she was just joking. But no, Mariya wasn't kidding, she was making a good point instead..the only point and option they really had. What likely they needed, was most likely down somewhere in stores.. and that meant below... somewhere. Marina made certain to stay close to her merc friend as she followed her in search of a way down. Coming up on a turbo lift, Marina started pushing the button to call it up to them. only...it wasn't responding. Marina kept pressing it a few times more, praying it would respond..."...frak..."
"Yea sure why wouldn't it be?..." Marina sighed, turning from the dead turbo-light to her friend, who seemed to already be heading toward the staircase corridor. Giving the dead turbo lift a good resounding kick..."ouch, damn it..." she limped away for a few steps following Mariya. " Coming...coming..."
The door leading to the staircase creaked on its rusty hinges, as they both pushed it open. There was little light, despite the station's power generators humming in the background...more so in the stairway now as it lead to the subterranean levels. It was where the power generators were also located. If there was stored fuel cells, they would be by the power producing generators. "Gulp... I can't see the bottom at all... " Marina swallowed hard, looking down the open stair shaft where Mariya was shining her light. Marina had a light too, but it wasn't as bright, adding very little additional illumination down the winding skeletal metal staircase. "You sure about this?.." A question that she knew didn't need a reply for they had little choice. Their ship, the Mariner, was after all out of enriched fuel for the hyper-drives. And without it, they were going to be stuck in this system. Maybe not this moon, but with just sub-light engines, they may have to call Rishi thir home for awhile. So it was imperative that they find enriched fuel cells for the Mariner's hyperdrives. And the best possible source was down these service stairs to what looked like a dark abyss..where the station's power generators were in the subterranean level.
Marina reluctantly nodded, taking the cue to follow her friend. And follow she followed close behind, one flight down another flight ..down several more flights that were ever seemingly getting gloomier and darker with each flight. There were other levels they passed, but they were of little value as they were just power distribution rooms. Seemed this station had been build to withstand an attack, for the power grid was well dug below the moon rock. Going down the metal stairs wasn't so bad as they were after all heading down. And right about 100 meters or so they reached the bottom. Marina futilely turned her light to try and illuminate the top of the stairway. But just like they hadn't at first seen the bottom, she now couldn't see the top. Mariya pushing on the creaking door that lead to the generator level got her attention. She came over to Mariya and lent her hand in pushing the door to the generator room open.
At first, it appeared dark, but as soon as they stepped through the threshold the motion detectors triggered what remained of the working lights. Slowly and systematically what lights were still operational, came on line.
"Huh?...what in blazes are those things?" Marina asked, looking over the subterranean generator room. What ever these urn shaped mounds were, they were latterly all over the place. The humming from the generators that they had triggered on line from upstairs, most definitely told them they were in the power generating room...just that it now seemed to be littered with these strange looking objects.
