Lets have some questions to get the fun rolling:
Speaking in terms of your life, Where were you on May 19th 1999 when The Phantom Meance came out? Where do you expect to be in May 2009 when TPM turns 10 years old? |

Where were you on May 19th 1999 when The Phantom Meance came out?
I was nine, becoming a VERY avid Star Wars fan, and was starting to pull ahed at school (later to drop back) but I was a proper nerd and therefore had no social life... at all... Where do you expect to be in May 2009 when TPM turns 10 years old? I am expecting to be at York University, studying Astrophysics in my 2nd year. And very happy >.> but always in motion the future is. So I can't tell at the moment. I'll tell you then |

I was in school. Sure I have always been a fan of SW, but back then I had a social life. Where do you expect to be in May 2009 when TPM turns 10 years old? I expect to be spending my free time here like I already do. Other than that waiting for some new release to come out and drain more money from me. |

In 1999 I was a Star Wars obsessed 17 year old Highschool Student. I was a member of Swfans.net and their forums which were then on Ezboard, being the direct forrunner to TGC. Star Wars WAS my life in those days. I spent hours on my slow old computer just soaking up every shred of information available in the film as I awaited its release along with Millions of other fans. It was the best summer of my life, a life changing event.
In 2009, who knows. I'm already out of college and working in the "real world". Hopefully I'll have published a book by then, and hopefully TGC will still be kicking ass in its 10th year. |

Where I was: In college in Florida, I remember seeing it about 5 times in theaters or so- I was so psyched for it to come out, having watched 5 & 6 in the movies theaters and having grown up playing with SW toys.
Where I will be 2009: My son will be 5/6 so going to School- so I will definitly have time to either continue with a doctorate or work as an epidemiologist or professor- not sure which I wish to do yet though. |

Quote: Let's see, in 1999, I was a junior in college and by then, studying English lit and communications (speech). I was working at the museum around a couple other SW fans but we didn't go and see it together, strangely enough. I don't even think I saw it right away because I don't care for crowded theatres. Huh. I don't really remember though! As far as where I expect to be in '09, probably still working on campus though hopefully in a full-time position! I'll still be on TGC because I'm that geeky. |

May 19, 1999 I was at the midnight showing of "The Phantom Menace" with my boyfriend at the time. I was still working at the same job I'm at now but was just a cashier and my son was only 1 1/2 years old. Wow, does time fly!
In May 2009, I'm hoping to be finishing college or be done with it. I want to go into Radiology and be an Ultrasound tech. |

In 1999, obsessed high school student, I was actually in a dance recital the day it came out, and my boyfriend at the time went to see it without me.... during the recital... oh well. I got to see it a few days later.
in 2009? My son will be seven, hopefully old enough to share my enthusiasm (or if he doesn't that's alright too). I hope to be back in school at that point (I know how you feel Sky!!) for english, or possibly having gotten my undergrad already out of the way if the next few years go well, getting my teaching certification. |

Re: THE PHANTOM MENACE: 10th Anniversary Countdown | ||
Quote: Awe, thats a shame. The crowds, and being there with the fans was a large part of the magic of The Phantom Menace. By the time the other prequels came around it kind of changed. By then you had poser fans and basher fans to spoil things. But in 1999 Star Wars had s sparkling image and everybody wasn't so @#%$ cynical. |

When TPM came out I was nine years old, in grade 4 and living in Romania. I didn't discover Star Wars until I was 14.
In 2009 I'll probably be in my last year of high school, stressing over college applications and the like... |

I did see the re-release of the OT in busier theatres though in the mid-90s. Go figure huh? A guy friend (who I'd wanted as a boyfriend but didn't see things the same way

I remember going to the Special Edition rerelease that you are talking about in 1997. Great fun, and for me it was the first time I saw Star Wars in a theater. Gary (Clegg Holdfast) and I went to see A New Hope with my Dad.

Yeah, my mom took me to go see A New Hope as well, and it was kind of a bonding experience for both of us. She remembered going to see it in the theatres when it first came out, and while I had been familiar with the movies previously, this was when I was really bitten by "the bug."

The years between the 1997 release of the SE's and the arrival of TMP in May 1999 were a great span of time to be a Star Wars fan...especially from late 98 until the end of Summer 99 when TMP mania began to wind down. The internet was really getting huge about this same time which made things all the better with internet gossip, the traliers, spy reports and all that. I'll never forget that time in my life. It was perhaps the best summer of my life up until that point, and beyond. I miss it dearly, and it is my desire to hold onto that time which has really inspired me to keep TGC up and running all the years. Here we are, heading into the 8th year since the release. There were 16 years between ROTJ and TMP, so we're already half way across that span ourselvs.

In 1999 I too was a 17 year old High School student. Actually before TPM was released; I was already a Star Wars nerd. I watched the original trilogy every chance I had. I had the toys, the action figures, the LEGOs etc etc... things that I did thought or drew on paper were influenced by SW.
I was soon introduced to Ezboard by Brian (Ceel) and we got some of our HS friends together and started Rping. I usually had to either Rp at school during Library club, or spending countless afternoons/nights at Ceels on his old slow computer lol. I didnt have internet. Again I was submerged into the depths of Star Wars always checking the site for more news and info and so on. I saw TPM I believe with Ceel and then saw it several more times after. We even saw it at the Drive in that used to be in our area.. .good times!! In 2009 I hope to be out of college and working on producing or directing either TV shows or movies. |

Ah yes, those were the days Clegg. Back when you could really use the internet at school without being controlled and censored by the school, keeping you away from anything entertaining.
